I'm not able to backup my files from my HDD camcorder to my PC's external hard drive. I have 493 files, last night it backed up 80% then quit. This morning it won't download past 10%. I've checked the external drive and I have 387 GB left. Any ideas?

Try to download to a folder on your PC to try to isolate the problem a little bit. If that works out ok, then see if you can go from your PC to the external drive. Since it downloaded different amounts two different times, it's probably a software issue. Sometimes, however, software can get bogged down for awhile, and noone has been able to really say why, but it's probably a hangup with resources and software. When you try to download again, let it run for at least an hour. Try to load a few movies on your external to check it, and if the hard drive's good, you will know to look at the software issues.

Hi,
If you listen to my suggestion I will recommend you to copy the files from the hdd camcorder to the external hard drive instead of using any backup software because if you use the backup software then in future when you format your PC for any problem you will face difficulties in getting back those files from the ext. hdd .

I'm using the PowerCinema software which came with my camcorder, not a different software

  • Anonymous Jul 30, 2010

OK But I think you will see the files in "MY Computer" or "Computer" when you connect the camera to the PC the camera will appear as a new drive in that and you can copy your movie files from that drive to the ext. hdd.

  • Anonymous Jul 30, 2010

I agree, the Power Cinema comes up, I select the external directory folder I want the files copied to, it begins the copy process and then just stops. I'm trying to understand/fix why it stops copying the files from my HDD to the hard drive.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Folder dissapear only some open file are ther and drive show 80 % full

Most probably your PC & external HDD is infected with dangerous objects/files eg. virus, malwares, etc... which resulted your folders & files atributes changed to "hidden".

Do a thorough Virus/Malware scan for the PC & External HDD, to removed the "dangerous object/files"

Refer to this thread how to recover your "hidden" folder/files @ Reset System and Hidden Attributes for Files or Folders Caused by Virus

Hope it helps

I want to back up my hard drive onto my Elements external drive. The computer says that the Elements 3607 does not have enough space. What do I do?

Well first of all check how many free space you have on your ext. drive. If you DO have enough to back-up your files, then i would suggest you right clicking on your ext. drive, choose properties and format it,but beware, formating will delete ALL your data on external drive.
If you think i was usefull, click on Thumbs up button, cheers!

I can't restore pc formatted external hard drive back to Mac use

You probably formatted your harddrive in NTFS. NTFS is a so called "file system", but it is designed by microsoft, it only works on microsoft systems and on some linux distributions. However it is not compatible with mac.
So what now? You can go and find software that makes your mac ntfs compatible, or you could backup the files on a windows computer, format your drive in FAT32 and copy the files back to the drive. Take a look at this: http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com/ That should make your mac NTFS compatible.
good luck!

I can't seem to open my external acomdata hard drives. My computer doesn't recognize them and when they do open they will close in a few minutes.

Either the power-supply for the external drive is dying,
or the disk-drive inside the external case is dying.

Quick, make a "backup" of all the files on your ACOMDATA, before it totally "dies".

If it still is under warranty, exercise the warranty, and replace it.

Simpletech external simple drive model 96300-40001-001--flashing blue light

do you mean that you used this as a "Data" drive and do not have the data stored on your pc...

that is basically the same as having no backup... if it is important, store the data in more than one location.

it is possible that a power surge killed the usb adapter on your storage device.... you may be able to transplant the HDD onto a working adapter or USB->HDD bridge to get your data back
