You are confusing 2 things, CPU speed and Memory or Ram speed.

To keep things straight forward, cpu speed can only be increased by replacing it with a faster cpu.

Ram, as you can see, can be increased by adding faster ram modules.

Go to either of these websites:-

http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/default.asp

http://www.crucial.com/uk/

Enter *********** board details or request they scan your computer. Check all the information offered, they will tell you what type and how much ram your motherboard can use.

If you can't increase your ram speed to more that 1Gb, I would suggest it time to invest in a new motherboard/PC rather than spending more on RAM.

There can be a whole load of reason why your second stick of ram doesn't work.

1) it could be broken.
2) It could be the wrong type.
3) You may need to update your Bios to accommodate it. Though this is very unusual.

IBM T23 wont turn on after adding new RAM

Hi - according to memory suppliers your T23 has the following memory capacity / requirements:

  • IBM ThinkPad T23 maximum RAM capacity: 1GB
  • Your IBM has Two (2) memory slots or sockets
  • Module upgrade PIN count is: 144-PIN
  • The memory speed is: SDRAM 133MHz, PC133
  • The laptop DIMM type for the ThinkPad T23 is: SODIMM, SO-DIMM, Small Outline DIMM
  • Non ECC

If you are meeting these requirements, you may have a defective module.

Also, according to Lenovo's page on the machine:

Memory
The system has 128MB or 256MB of memory standard and can be configured for up to 1GB of addressable memory. Memory options up to 512MB SDRAM SO DIMMs each can be added in the two available slots for memory expansion. The standard 128MB of memory is expandable up to 640MB and the 256MB of memory is expandable up to 768 MB of addressable memory with 64, 128, 256, or 512MB SO DIMMs without removing the 128MB SO DIMM that is standard in one of the internal slots for memory. For customers that need the maximum 1GB to which memory can be expanded, it is necessary to replace the 128MB or 256MB card with a 512MB card plus add another 512MB card in the extra slot. Only 133MHz DIMM memory can be used in this system. The use of 100MHz DIMM memory is not supported in the T23 systems.

This means yo can trouble shoot the 512MB modules individually by installing one of the original 128MB modules and one of the new 512MB modules (for a total system memory of 640MB). If it does not boot, try again with the other 512MB module. This will help you identify a defective module that may be preventing the machine from booting.

I hope this helps & good luck!

My emachines t3256 is running at half speed, it supposed to be a 2.2 GHZ prossesor and now its only 1.1 GHZ please help

Hello,

This is not necessarily a problem. The computer will utilize the cpu when it needs to, meaning, you are not putting much of a burden on the cpu if it is only running at 1GHZ. When you start to do more task, run more programs etc, you will see the CPU utilization increase!

I hope this is informative.

I increased memory from 512 to 768 on Dell desktop with 2.4 celeron but did'nt seem to increase speed.what is the problem? Ray.

That minimal amount of increase is not going to be a very noticeable increase also the processor or a faster RPM hard drive is more for the speed. you can go to the system properties in control panel and then the advanced tab and then the settings tab on performance then to the Advanced Tab then to change tab in virtual memory then to custom size make the initial setting 1.5 times the amount of memory installed in your case 768 x 1.5 = 1152
on the max 3 x the amount of memory again, in you case 768
768 x 3 = 2304

Upgrade RAM in a Latitude D600. one bay seems to fail

The memory bay is a part of the motherboard. Try each stick in each bay to make sure that the problem is the motherboard itself. Sometimes memory is incompatible with a particular laptop. Sometimes there is a maximum allowable memory. The maximum for your PC is 2 GB.

I have elite mother board P4 M800 PRO M2 socket 775...the problem is always hang and to slow..i reformat 3 times but the problem same plz help me i need assistance..

This are things that need to consider in a computer speed performance:
1. Amount of ram memory(If you have only small amount of memory then your computer performance is poor.)
2. Speed of your processor(You should need at least a 1Ghz processor speed or more).

I suggest you increase your ram memory so that your computer will perform faster.

Can I increase the system memory beyond 2 mb?

Yes, you can increase your RAM - and it's also quite cheap and easy.

You can find 4GB RAM kits on Newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Store/Category.aspx?Category=17&name=Memory

They cost about $50 for the cheaper ones. You also have to make sure they'll fit your motherboard - if you have a relatively new computer (About 3 years or newer), you should be safe with picking DDR2 memory.

Also, depending on the processor and motherboard you have, you could pick different-speed RAM. It's not important if the speed doesn't match up exactly to your CPU, but if you know how to pick the right one it would maximize its efficiency.

I need to add space to my compaq presario desk top. i don't know how to on this computer. the model# SR5034X

If you want to increase cpu speed so you need to increase RAM memory.
You can fix it on motherbord of desktop cpu.
But if you have low space on disk storage partition so you can add space to desktop with 2 method.
(1) you can add harddisk to desktop cpu with sata or IDE .SATA harddisk is best if your motherbord support SATA.
You can add harddisk as you like for example 80 GB or 160 Gb.
(2) If you want to add RAM memory for speed reson you can purchase new RAm and fix it in memory module slot on motherbord.
There is 2 type on
RAM in currently.
DDR1 and DDR2

you can add RAM memory like 512 MB or 1GB or more.

Memory support confusion

Hello gu11ddu,
Here are the specifications concerning your question about your motherboard's RAM.

Memory Type grayquestion.gif DDR SDRAM Number of Memory Slots 4 x 184 Pin DIMMs Supported RAM speeds 400 MHz • 333 MHz Max Supported RAM grayquestion.gif 4 GB
The key factors that are the most important when you select your ram is the MEMORY TYPE DDR SDRAM, 184 PIN DIMMs, and the SUPPORTED RAM SPEEDS 400 MHz and 333MHz. Your motherboard will support memory no more than 4 GB of memory, so yes you could use the 128mb modules, but you must make certain that they are DDR SDRAM types and 184 Pin DIMMs as this is what the manufacturer suggests is compatiable with your specific motherboard. The supported speed is also a suggestion, because this is the max speed that will work at it's optimal level. You can buy some ram modules that are higher, but they will clock down to the max speed allowed by your system. In other words, say for example you went to your local best buy or circuit city and bought the suggested memory type with the proper pin count and DIMM modules but they only had 500 MHz bus speed, then your system would clock the speed down to 400 MHz. With 4 128mb modules you are only going to get 512 mb max memory, because 4 x 128 mb = 512 mb so you will not be using all the available memory capacity that your motherboard can handle. If you wanted to maximize your memory usage you could buy 4 of the 1 GB memory modules or buy 2 of the 2 GB modules to obtain your max capacity. In your case buying 4 128 mb memory modules would not be worth it because you could buy 1 of the 2 GB modules and get better memory usage.
Another important thing to remember is that you should always use the same type of memory modules and never mix and match them with different ones as this could cause system crashes and problems with lots of memory errors. When going to a local store and asking a sales rep for compatible ram they will ask you what is the make and model of your computer and what your processor speed is because your processor speed also determines your bus speed because your ram will not operate above that speed it will simply clock down (if it is rated higher than what your processor speed is), with this information they will look up any compatible ram they may have in stock. Hope this answers your question and if you need further assistance please let me know.

p.s. your motherboard can support up to a pentium 4 class processor, but this may be different than what you have in your system.

If you do not mind, please rate my help as I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
