Go into the picture taking menu and find a setting for picture quality...choose the largest one.

I had a Cannon EasyShare CX7000 many years ago, had the same problem exactly, Canon cameras are not that durable when it comes to dropping it, but I have a Cannon Powershot SD1000 and I have dropped it numerous times and it still functions like it's new. three words REPLACE YOUR CAMERA. oh, and there is no reset button, you are out of luck

Does the lens cover move when you do this? If it doesn't, it sounds like that might be the problem.

For those interested... It is possible to use a Powershot camera as a webcam thou it requires 2 softwares:

1)PSremote
2)Softcam

Basically I used psremote to create a viewfinder on the screen and den use Softcam as a virtual video capture device to capture the image on the "viewfinder".

I tried and tested on MSN and it works.
