Check door for paper stuck in front of sensor. There is a door in the back look to see if paper shred is in there infront of the back door sensor.

Clear carriage jam

The carriage assembly is what the ink cartridges moves on. The silver bar that runs through the cartridge holder must be oiled. Put two or three drops of thin oil oun iether sides of the cartridge holder. This should clear the "carriage error"

Error message= open door clear carriage jam and

I think the message is instructions, as in
(1) open door (2) clear carriage jam (3) press enter
So there is something internal to the printer that makes it think it has a carriage jam, piece of paper under a sensor, dirty or stuck sensor.
If you can't find it using a bright light, try canned air.

Paper jam. I am getting an error message to open door, clear carriage jam, and then press enter. I did that but proble persists. There is no paper in the machine, no jam.

It is most likely that there is still a piece of paper in the machine. Was the paper you removed from the machine torn? Are you certain you have all the pieces?
Most HP printers have an access panel on the back that you can open to retrieve paper jams. Many people don't know to open that panel and look for paper. Try that.

Cartridge jams

remove the cartridge and directly off the printer let the carriage remain in center.then with your hand manually move the carriage from left to right.3 to 4 times.then on the printer and insert the cartridge after cleaning it with dry tissue.then check out.also in the back side of the printer there is access door to remove the paper if jammed so check out there also if any paper jammed.
thanks.

HP PSC 2210 keeps complaining about paper jam. There is no paper jam!

For carriage jam try these steps

Remove both the ink cartridges from the All-In-One. also all the papars in the tray
Unplug the power cord from the All-In-One as well as the power outlet.
Now move the carriage (carriage is the one which holds the cartridge) Too and Fro till you feel the carriage is moving smoothly.
Then insert the cartridges close the access door.
Plug the power cord directly to a wall outlet without surg protector.
Before connecting the power cord to the All-In-One press and hold the # and no 6 button and then insert the power cord, do not release the keys
until you see a message a reset (if the screen goes blank then release the keys and turn the power on)
Now try printing a test page or make a copy

Open Door. Clear carriage jam, and then press Enter

Sounds like you have a jam. Open the back of the printer and checl for any paper large or small. If there is no paper, just opening the door and closing it may get rid of the message. All it takes is a piece of paper the diameter of a pea to send a signal that there is a paper jam. After yuou have finished close the door and push enter to let the printer know you are finished. See if this helps. I don't think it has anything to do with the ink cartridges. It sounds more like something stuck causing the jam. Be sure not to have anything like a staple attached to the paper you are printing on to. A speck of dirt could casue a jam message too.

Unplug the printer.
Move the carriage back to the home position, all the way right.
