I have a foxconn n15235 and the problem is my system only comes on very occasionly.wut could be wrong?

It might be the power switch itself. I've seen them become intermittent, but it's not a frequent problem.

A more likely cause would be the power supply. Unless your computer uses a proprietary power supply (as in some very small cases, for instance), you can easily change the supply. You might be able to borrow one from someone to try and see if your system starts reliably. This is what I see most often; in fact, I just replaced a supply for a friend whose computer was randomly shutting down or would not start up, just like you describe.

The motherboard may be bad. When you press the power button, you're signalling the motherboard which then signals the power supply to turn on. It's possible the motherboard isn't always working correctly.

You might have a hard disk or optical drive connected to the motherboard that is causing this. Disconnect the cables to all the drives from the motherboard and see if the system starts more reliably. Of course, if you disconnect the hard disk the system won't start your operating system, but right now you just want to see if it turns on.

It can be a frustrating process to find the trouble, but you'll fix it. Try the power supply first. Good luck, and thanks for using Fixya!

ONN N15235 motherboard, which is a 775 socket. I am currently running a Pentium E2160 on its but its pretty slow so I bought an E5400 to replace it. When I changed the CPU over and started up my computer...

The LGA 775 processor socket doesn't matter, calderwooddu.

It's up to the motherboard chipset, and the BIOS program, and version, of what that Foxconn N15235 will support. I would go back to the Pentium Dual Core E2160, use CPU-Z from CPUID.com, (Free), and see what the motherboard chipset is, first.

(Motherboard chipset: The Northbridge, and Southbridge chips. Chip is slang for I.C. Integrated Circuit)

The Northbridge chip is what determines what Processors are supported.

1) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Motherboard_diagram.svg

2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northbridge_%28computing%29

Since the E2160 is built upon the 65nm technology, and the E5400 is built upon the 45nm technology, the Northbridge chip of the Foxconn N15235 may not support the E5400.

With the technology change are also Instruction Set changes. Plus other parameter changes. The BIOS program, and version on the Foxconn N15235 may not support these, either. Sorry to be a bummer.

Not a solution per se, Yet.

Need to know what computer this Foxconn mobo is out of. (MOtherBOard)
OR, if you get the computer operational again, let's use CPU-Z to see what the motherboard chipset is.
Need help in downloading, and/or installing CPU-Z, post in a Comment.

Foxconn motherboard n15235 no viedio

Hi,

That motherboard is either a P4M800P7MB-RS2 or a P4M800P7MB-RS2H, even thou it has N15235 stamped on the board. The board
Supports VGA display function (S3 Graphics UniChromeTM Pro IGP)
but, also has an AGP 8X slot. A slot that allows you to install a AGP 8X (AGP 3.0) card. A AGP 8x is the VGA interface specification that enabled enhanced graphics performance with bandwidth speeds up to 2.1 GB/s.

Hope that answers your question.
