There is a capacitor connected to the compressor and one connected to the fan ... the capacitors are used to start both (called starting capacitor) ...if its bad then the compressor/fan may buz but not start ..it will kick out once it gets hot .. that thermal cutout will reset when it cools down ... the capacitor may be a dual unit .. that is, two capacitors in one case (one for fan, one for compressor) ... you could have a frozen compressor or bad bearings in the fan but typically its just the capacitor thats bad (make sure the fan turns freely) ... follow wires coming out of the compressor and fan .. some will go to the capacitor ...thats a metal part (usually a rounded rectangular shape about 4 inches) .. the 3 or 4 wires just plug into the capacitor .. replace with the same value (microfarads and voltage) or get an exact replacement using its part number ... mark what wires go where .. make sure power is off befor servicing ..

Replace compacitor on Carrier 5 ton 3 phase AC

Your 3 phase unit should not have a capacitor. I'm guessing it's single phase. If it's a single capacitor than the compressor should not be going to it also. To test the motor, common to start plus common to run should equal the ohms you get between start and run. For instance, 1.2 ohms+ 2.2 ohms= 3.4 ohms. Follow the wiring diagram on the inside of the door, send model number!!

My LG Split 1 ton Continue poor working with under voltage 180V (Due to Long distance Transformer), Once its capacitor have to change this summer. Now i arrange Stabilizer which give 230V. Before...

Unfortunately, there is not a great deal of information about LG splits available, but is you are talking $12,000 to to repair, then it is much cheaper to replace since a two ton complete is less that half that amount.

What is the HP rating if a 3 ton air conditioner?

Hi, this depends on the compressor that is installed in this unit. It may be a Copeland scroll, a Tecumseh, its hard to say. Most compressors are around 2 hp for a 3 ton unit. On the data plate it will tell you the h.p. of the blower and condenser fan motors such as 1/4 h.p., or 1/3. If you can get the name and model numbers from the top of your compressor, you can call a a/c, Refrigeration parts house, wholesale and they will have it in there manuals. The B.T.U. rating for your compressor is 36,000. There are 12,000 BTU's per ton of cooling, this is something that almost no one knows, but now you do. If it were a smaller unit such as a 2 and 1/2 ton, it would be 30,000 B.T.U.'s. You can look at the model number of a unit and you will see numbers like this, 024, 2-ton, 030, 21/2 ton, and 036 a 3 ton unit and so on. Your compressor alone will be in the range of a 2 horse unit, which ever the brand of compressor they installed in it. Please don't forget to rate me on this as I know you will be kind. I will be here if you ever need help on repairs or trouble-shooting your unit in the future, just use my user name below.

Home unit 3 ton won't run

The small capacitor is for the fan motor the other for thecompresor .You can try conecting a booster (or hot start) in paralel to the comp.capacitor .If this doesnt work you have to replace the compresor.

Compressor went out on 4 ton unit. want to upgrade to 5 ton A/C. Have been told need bigger blower unit. Can I exchange to blower unit that will handle 5 ton A/C?

Hi mans1930. You need to replace the whole inside blower unit, the coil as well as the blower. If not, there would be a very good chance of damaging your outdoor unit, namely by ruining your new compressor.
