Restoring it to factory settings will erase all the info you have on the phone. But doing so will improve the phones speed.

How to do soft format dial
nokia 5130 platform is Series 40 5th Edition, Feature Pack 1.So formatting feature is not available.The only thing you can do is "reset to factory settings"

menu>settings>restore factory settings
Key in your phone security code when asked.(default code is 12345).

If you want to fully format your phone contact customer care.They can do flashing your firmware and reinstall it.
