First time ever dvd player is asking for a password

Fortunately Sony built in a default password for occasions such as yours. The procedure is laid out on page 45 of your manual. Follow these steps to make use of the built in password:

1) Go to the Parental settings on your menu and choose PASSWORD.

2) input "136900" in the box marked "Old Password".

3) Enter a new password in the "New Password" box. Enter the same password in the "Verify Password" box then press Enter to confirm.

You should now be able to use the new password that you setup above.

Please follow the instuctions below to reset the password and switch off the parental control on the Zenith DBV412.

1. Switch on the TV and DVD player
2. Switch the TV to the input for the DVD player
3. Remove any disc from the player
4. Press the SETUP key on the Zenith remote to open the on-screen menu
5. Press 2 1 0 4 9 9 using the numerical keys on the Zenith remote.
6. Press SETUP again to close the menu

This will clear any password that has been set. Now you need to switch off the parental control:

8. Press the SETUP key to open the on-screen menu again
9. Use the down arrow to highlight the PADLOCK for the parental control settings
10. Press the RIGHT arrow once to enter the parental control menu
11. Highlight RATING and press the RIGHT arrow once.

You will be asked to set a password. Enter something simple and easy to remember, e.g. 0000 then press ENTER. You will need to confirm the password by entering the same number again, then press enter again.

12. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to highlight UNLOCK then press ENTER
13. Press SETUP again to close the menu

You should now be able to insert your Across the Universe disc and play it. If you are still unable to watch the disc or you are unable to switch off the parental control feature, please let me know.

If there is a key symbol illuminated on the display, press and hold the "LOCK" button on the Zenith remote. This is located near the bottom of the remote, near the REC/ITR button.

For the parental lock feature, press the SETUP button on the remote then use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to highlight RATING and press the RIGHT arrow once. This will open the rating menu. Press the DOWN arrow repeatedly until UNLOCK is highlighted then press ENTER. Finally, press SETUP again to close the menu.

You may be asked to enter a password to change the rating setting. If you know the password (4 numbers), enter it when prompted. If you don't know or you've forgotten the password, close the menu using the SETUP key, then press SETUP again to re-open the menu.

Dont select anything here, simply press 2 1 0 4 9 9 using the number keys on the remote and then press ENTER. This will clear any password that has been set. You will then be asked to set a new password the next time you try to access the RATING section of the menu.

rating from "1 Kids" to "8 Adult", then

1. In DVD Stop mode, press SETUP.
2. Select Others > Password.
3. Enter your old password using the 0-9
keys.
4. Enter your new password.
5. Re-enter your new password and

Try using the password 136900. If this passcode works for you, then access the setup menu from your remote, and under the general setup menu, choose the Disc Unlock option.

With no disc in the player
1) turn on.
2) press open key.
3) press 5168.
4) select rating.
5) select "adult" or whatever rating you would like.
6) select setup.

3) Use Up/Down Bottom to change region Codes
4) Set to 0 (zero) for multi-region
