If you do not have the install CD that came with third-party software (or you have a OS that is not compatible with that software), you will need to get a OCR program. SimpleOCR (http://www.simpleocr.com/Download.asp ) is free but doesn't handle pages with columns well. (It merges across the column breaks instead separating the paragraphs.) It also doesn't handle handwritten text. This software outputs to a file for a Word Processor (such as Microsoft Office's Word). Most word processors either come with a PDF converter or have one available as an add-on. The commercial OCR software packages will include the save as a PDF function and do not have the limitations of SimpleOCR; although they also default initially to a format for Word Processing (to correct any mistakes). (I have used OmniPage at times personally.)

With most all-in-ones, if you have the full software installed, there will be an option for saving as a PDF. (This is true even on the versions that weren't bundled with OCR software.) If you have a generic OS driver or the basic driver, this will usually not be available Take a look at the screens that come up if you start the scan from the computer. (There will be a place to adjust settings, including the resolution and the output type.) This won't be editable unless you go through the OCR software.

I hope this helps.

When I scan my document the scanner does not give me a pdf document the only choices are jpeg, tiff,

Not all printers come with the free PDF creation software.
What you can do though, is download the driver software for a printer like an officejet 8500, and install it specifying that you will connect the printer later during the install process.
The HP solution center that comes with the 8500 software should allow access to your scanner as well, and it DOES have the PDF and OCR software so you can create PDF, Searchable PDF and plain text or MS Word readable documents.
Be sure to create a restore point before installing the software first though, just in case anything goes wrong (occasionally having 2 printer softwares installed can cause issues)..

I am trying to scan a multiple page document into a single pdf document on my HP C7280 but it scans each page to individual images. Any suggestions?

In Adobe Acrobat:-
From 'File' select 'Create PDF', 'from Scanner'.
Scan the first page and the program will ask of you for 'Next' or 'Done'.
Select 'Next' until you have scanned the last page, then select 'Done'.
You can also make the document searchable by carrying out an OCR on it under 'Documents', 'Recognise text under OCR', 'Start'.

I can't scan on my lexmark printer model x5650. When I scan a document it gives me the message " Install the OCR from the OCR folder". I can't find the OCR folder in my computer. What should I do".

The Lexmark OCR scan software is available in the installation disk that came with the printer. You can explore the installation disk and look for the Abby setup application in the OCR folder (for Windows). For Mac OS, right-click on the Install icon and choose Show Package Contents. Open Contents folder > open Package folder and manually install the Abby Finereader application.
However, if you don't have the installation disk, contact Lexmark technical support. Thanks.

Dear Sir, Recently, I have purchased a MF4320d Canon printer. The problem is this that the scanner of the printer is not scanning the text (OCR). Whenever I tried to scan some document in world it ask...

the scanner will always scan the documents as JPED or BMP, its the OCR software in your computer which will convert it to editable text.
if you dont have any OCR software then you can open the scanned image (TIFF) in microsoft office imaging software (something like that) and click on the W (Word) icon on the top toolbar to convert it to text

My hp laser jet 3052 cannot scan documents in pdf.It is only giving options to save either in jpeg, tif, bmg format. There is no pdf format.

You may need to purchase a scanner to get a PDF like Acrobat Reader. But if you managed to save to PDF before, try to reinstall the software and add software and choose OCR. Most of the HP PDF capablility is together with its OCR software.

Yes

Yes, OCR software takes a page of "printed" text, and tries to use image-processing techniques to
O(ptically) do C(haracter) R(ecognition) to extract the text, letter-by-letter, and to create a "text" document that you can "edit" on your computer.

UNABLE TO MAKE CORRECTIONS TO DOCUMENT

Scanners put a graphic image on your computer that is a "picture" as far as the computer is concerned and therefore, you cannot edit text because it is seen as pixels and not characters. In order to make a scanned document editable, you'll need to use the OCR function in your software (Optical Character Recognition). This is assuming your printer came with OCR software, if not, you'll need to purchase an OCR software package in order to convert images into editable documents. You should be able to find such packages for less than $50.00. Check your documentation (and help files) and look for OCR in the index or search the help files for OCR to see if such software came with your printer software package.

Scanning document

You need some OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. Normally I'd expect to get some supplied with a scanner, but there is various free stuff available to download.
I've not tried any of it, so I won't recommend anything in particular.
Google "OCR software", there is plenty of choice.
Good luck.
