Safe won't open

I have a Sentry safe model 1610...I enter the 5 digit code I always use and it does not open. I've replaced the battery thinking that would solve the problem but it still does not open. Any help would be beneficial...PS. I've gone on the website and it looks like this product is discontinued and there is no info for it.
thanks,

    NO Luck with the site.

  • beviansa Apr 23, 2008

Thank you all for your "Premium Solution" to my problem. Of course I was not looking for a way to hack into my safe...Duh, that is why is called a safe. But I was looking for an alternative method of troubleshooting the problem so I could open it such as: Sometimes the door in this type of safe gets jam and you should try hitting it to dislodge, or somthing like, by following these user instructions on your type of safe you should be able to isolate the problem. I was definitely not looking for links on the manufacturer or other types of links on suggestions....I was doing this already by my own searching means....WHAT A RIP OFF...I've call my credit card company and your FixYA number and I expect my money back....Poor the person that contacts you that is under any emergency and you suggest to look at a link or call the manufacturer...

I think I found your answer From office1000.com since I know that any method of opening these besides cutting them will not be common information.

"I bought a used Sentry Safe at a garage sale"

"I bought a business and it came with a Sentry Safe that is locked"

Help!

We get these requests everyday. Unfortunately, eventhough Office1000.com sells many Sentry Safe products, we don't have combinations for any of them. There is a quick and easy answer. It can be found on Sentry's webpage and we have reprinted here it for your convenience (though of course the details may be changed at anytime):

Lost combination:
First, find your safe's Model and Serial Number.
The Serial Number is in this packet, and is also printedon the small label beside the door hinge (outside). Send a copyof this, a notarized letter (last name must be different than that of owner) stating you are the safe's owner, and a check or money order for $12.00* (U.S. funds) to: Sentry Group, Dept. 200,
882 Linden Avenue,
Rochester, NY 14625-2784 USA.
If using a credit card (Visa/Mastercard only), call 1-800-828-1438
and fax your Model and Serial number with the notarized letter
to 585-381-2940.
That's it. It's simple.

Please let me know if you need any further help, Good Luck

Due to the nature of the item, ways to unlock them are not common info, If you follow my instructions above, then you will be able to attain the way to open the safe. If the way to open these safes were on the internet, then anyone could try stealing the items within them, think about it, would you want everyone to know how to get into your safe? This website was designed to give as much information as possible about items that people have trouble with and hopefully give enough to fix their problem. We do NOT have ALL of the answers and so we gave what we could but due to the type of item, we can't be more helpful, especially not online otherwise everyone would know how to get into your safe.

Thank you for using Fixya and I hope that you follow my advice and instructions above to get the safe open

The safe merely malfunctioned, I could have said take a crowbar to it to try and jimmie it but most likely it went into a safety mode, There isn't much to complicate a safe. I'm sorry that you are so displeased but we can't always get an answer that someone will like.

The safe just needs to be reset and we can't do it, the reason that we didn't give you any other kind of help is that there is no reason to. Your problem is with the safe combination and nothing else.

    Have a good day.

You have to contact Sentry directly to get another key

It is the same, contact them and tell them the number printed on the safe , the will give you a numeric key to unlock, this is the way you normally proceed.
Do you think you find the unlock key on the internet?
    Again:

LOL, evidently you expected an easy hack for your safe.
Do you think you can open a safe by removing the battery, or with some trick you can find on google that would no be very clever for a safe, would it?

People all over the world have to call sentry providing their safe serial number and personal details to get the unlocking numeric key, that is how it works.

I can see you do not even seem interested in the solution, you are complaining from start without even trying what suggested in post.
Next time, if you want free help use the free posting section or ask me button, so that we can chose when to dedicate time to your problem, and some other user can get his rightful premium assistance.
    Fair enough, isn't it?

For your info, above co mess number for USA (again), if you live in a different country send an email to Sentry, you find contact on website above. The key they will send is a numeric code (LOL again).

    Enjoy Fixya

    LOL.
    No need for being abusive.

Fixya always refund unhappy poster unconditionally, you can save the hustle of blocking cards etc, your $10 will be back in your pocket soon, so that you can put em back into your Sentry safe.

The only solution to open a Sentry is getting emergency unlock key (numeric, do not expect a bronze key Lord of the Ring style key), What do you expect us to tell you that you can open the save with a tv remote.

Oops I nearly forgot, here is an alternative definitive method to open your Safe., this will work for sure.

Put a smile in your face and relax.
No need to answer us back, especially if your intention is again calling names etc.
deal with Fixya admins to arrange your refund.

    Regards

I have lost the combination for my safe model V330 my model number V330 Sentry safe

  • Open your Sentry safe by typing the five-digit factory code (found in your owner's manual) on the keypad. It's always a good idea to change your combination while the safe is open, so that you don't inadvertently lock yourself out.
  • Delete any existing codes by pressing the "P" key and entering the factory code, followed by "00000." On older safes, press the "PROG" key and entering your factory code twice to delete old codes.
  • Press the "PROG" or "P" key again on your Sentry safe's keypad.
  • Enter your safe's five-digit factory code.
  • Enter a five-digit code of your choosing within 5 seconds. This is your user code. While the factory code cannot be changed, your user code can be changed as often as you like, and that should be your primary code to open the safe. Only you should know your safe's factory code.
  • Retype the user code to verify it is working, and then close the safe.

How can i drill a hole into my keepsafe wall safe to open it?

Keep the drill motor in the toolbox, you'll likely just ruin the safe.

Go here instead: https://www.sentrysafe.com/CustomerCare/Lost_Your_Combination

There are 3 possible ways to unlock and access
the safe:
1. Factory code
(Found on the first page of the factory guide) You can
always open the safe by entering the pre-set 5-digit
factory code. This code cannot be deleted.
2. User code
If you prefer to employ your own code, you can
program the safe to open using a 5-digit user code
of your choice.
3. User pin
If you wish to give someone else temporary access
to the safe, you can program a 5-digit user pin that
can later be erased.
Programming the user code
NOTE: One (1) user code is allowed.
To add:
1. Press the Prog key , then enter the 5-digit
factory code.
2. Enter the 5-digit user code of your choice.
To delete:
1. Press the Prog key.
2. Enter the 5-digit factory code twice.
Programming user pin
NOTE: One (1) user pin is allowed.
To add:
1. Press the Prog key 2 times.
2. Enter your 5-digit user code.
3. Enter the 5-digit user pin of your choice.
To delete:
1. Press the Prog key 2 times.
2. Enter your 5-digit user code.
3. Enter 0, 0, 0, 0, 0.
NOTE: If your safe does not appear to be working,
please check batteries before calling Sentry

Sentry 1610 safe. cannot open. I have been using 5 didgit code for many yaers. All of sudden, it won't open. I see green light after pushing 5 digits. I hear the familar sound. But the handle won't turn.

there are either 4 AA batteries or in some cases one 9 volt battery that has to be replaced .. in some models you slide off the area under the keypad to get at the battery .. .. as the battery ages it has enough current to operate the display but not enough to operate the unlocking mechinism .. once you have it open make sure the mechinism works freely .. if not it may need some non gumming lub .. dont use WD 40 for this ..

Sentry 1610 safe - battery is dying?

I have 2 Sentry 1610 Safes. A fresh alkaline battery MAY open the safe once (maybe twice), and then the same problem. I have a variable DC power supply that I hook up to the battery terminals, set to 9 volts and increase the current until the keypad responds & the deadbolt releases. Sentry has no solution for this problem, as this model is too old & they have no parts or troubleshooting. If you know someone with a small DC Power Supply, you can get your safe open / closed.

Sentry Model 1610 Won't Open

I have a different model but I had the same problem. Called customer service and they had me push up on the handle and enter the code. That didn't work but then they had me tap the safe with a rubber mallet 5 times above the panel and 5 times to the right of the panel. That worked for me. Hope one of those works.
