Tv picture shrinks to one small line across the middle the screen.

The TV will be fine for a while but then the picture will shrink into one small line going across the TV screen If we tap the side of the TV the picture goes back to full screen. Obviously that cannot be the permanent solution.
Any thoughts.

same problem, where are the pins located or how much would it cost to take it in and have it done ?

  • klnoel Sep 04, 2008

Yes, We have the same problem. All I have to do is touch the Audio / Video Jacks on the front of the TV and the picture will return.

Reduced picture quality (horizontal lines), reduced vertical
picture size, the picture “bends” at top and bottom on horizontal edge,
sometimes picture is reduced to 1 cm horizontal line.

    I have the same problem.

I didn't expect hitting it on the side to work,

now we just got to resolder the vertical output ic pins.

    Thanks.

JVC picture turns into a single line in middle of screen.

This is caused due to random falure of vertical scan circuits. It generally is caused by dried out capacitors or bad driver IC. Unfortunately it will get worse. If you fail to turn the TV off quickly you will burn a permenant horizontal line on the tube. Trip to the repair shop I am afraid.

Tv picture shrinks

This is a common problem on certain models of Philips Magnavox TV sets. The most common symptom is the screen will shrink and expand over and over. After the TV heats up for a while the video will work like normal. After a few weeks or months your TV will eventually stop working and not have video. You can get complete parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com

Insignia 32" Tube TV NS-RTV32

The vertical output IC LA7847 is failing. It will likely fail permanately and you will have just the horizontal line. The set will require service. Just do not run the set very long in this state. That thin white line can likely burn into the crt phospher and will show all the time thus ruining the glass picture tube...

No picture Thin line across middle of screen

Hi,

Most problems indicated by your description involved the Vertical IC. With your post "tap...pop back up" signifies a loose connection or to be more specific a cold solder. I suspect that no part(s) need top be replaced but would however require re-application of heat with the use of a soldering iron.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Sony Trinitron kv32fs16 picture shrinks

You have a bad solder connection in the vertical circuit. This will require you to resolder these bad connections before it blows out the vertical output IC or other parts in the circuit. Do this ASAP before you make a small repair into a large one. If you have no solid state printed circuit board experience, please play it safe and take the set into a pro to do this for you. Good Luck
