I have an acer travelmate 3260AWXMi. I bought it in 2007. Am not much of a computer expert but I will list down the problems which I face and for which I need solutions. 1.The battery life is very poor. The battery lasts only for a few minutes before I need to plug it. I had used it optimally by fully charging and discharging it, except when otherwise required. But still the battery went down. 2.Now the system is ridden with viruses, thanks to my workplace computer and an outdated anti-virus. Where I work, there is no internet connectivity (trust me). I need to re-boot the system.I tried a complete system check but I think i need to re-format the whole thing. I can download the neccessary drivers etc from the internet. I hav a good pc and internet connection. 3. My system is too slow. Its got 504 MB RAM,120 GB HDD.Need anymore specs, let me know.Pls suggest something to increase its speed. Its maybe because of some settings or programs. 4. Am planning to sell the laptop since I got a new one but would like to rectify the problems before doing so.
I can only address some of the list:
1. The Acer batteries are notorious for short life-span, you will probably need to replace it.
2. Download the free version of Avast anti-virus (http://www.avast.com/security-software-home-office) and run the boot check after installing it.
3. You can add memory (RAM) to the system through a small door on the under-side. It can take up to4 GB of DDR2 533 MHz memory, upgradeable using
two soDIMM modules (dual-channel support)
4.After all else is done defragment the drive and then go to the Microsoft update site and make sure everything is current.
Good luck.

Buy a new battery. Cheapest that I found is $56

Format the HDD, thats the easiest way if you have nothing important on it. You can also clean it by running free, very good antivirus software like Avira

and MalwareBytes from

You need to buy more memory and your system will fly. It can support up to 4GB of RAM. So buy 2x2GB RAM and here are the specs:
DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered •
NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64
Another option is to take it to PC tech and pay around $50 or so for all of that...
