My canon A550 has conked off

I used to carry my camera everywhere I went, incase I see something which I wanna capture in a picture. Well I did take out my camera one day to remove a shot, but unfortunately, any button I press just keeps alternating between shooting and display mode. I cannot do anything with the camera now. So even if I click to take a picture, it just moves into display mode and the snap is obviously not taken..

Has anyone ever seen this problem..? My camera is still under warranty, but I do not have the receipt for it, since it was given to me as a gift. Can I still claim under the warranty period..

Recommend calling Canon support at 1-800-828-4040 or 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666), and asking them directly about how to claim this warranty repair.

My battery drains out within 15-20 pictures on the A550. What is the reason? I am using Eveready Duracell batteries. If I just remove and insert the same batteries again it takes about 5-10 pictures more....

digital cameras are just like leeche for batteries.even if you spend a thousand rupees for an imported alkaline it would go off in 20 mins.get yourself a rechargeable NiMH batteries.

My preview screen is blank when taking a picture with the Canon A550, but I can view pictures in the memory. How can I turn the preview screen back on?

Think that you might have accidentally pressed the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the LCD display on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place. To turn the screen back on, just press the DISP button one more time.

Need CD to download the pictures taken on my A550

You can search ebay, but it will be difficult finding the exact version for your camera. Instead recommend reading the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:

Remote shooting on Canon PowerShot A550

The software that comes with the A630 is generic to the whole series of cameras with different capabilities. Some have this feature, and some, like the A500 - A600 series, do not. Do not feel bad though. Many of the cameras that do have this capacity cannot do the photo-stitch picture merging that your camera does.

Just a video of 8.03 minutes captured in my Power Shot A550 Digital Camera shows 867 MB size

A 1.3 hour movie is recorded on a DVD, not a CD. DVDs can hold a minimum of 4.7 GB, or nearly seven times the capacity of CDs. Your 867 MB file of 8.03 minutes indicates that you were recording at about 1,800 KB/sec, or the highest quality recording level. (See specifications here.) If you're willing to record your video in a smaller size, you can get much more recording on a CD.
