Sharp aquos 46d62u has sound, but no picture

Hi. I have a sharp aquos 46d62u, and recently, when turned on, the sound works, but there is no picture. This problem affects all inputs. The first time it happened, we left the TV off and unplugged all day, and it still wouldn't work until after that we tryed pulling the HDMI's out and re-plugging them, and the problem seemed fixed. This time, however, unplugging and replugging isn't working. The audio is just fine, but there's no picture what-so-ever. Maybe someone knows what's wrong and how to fix it?

I have the LC-32D40U with the same problem. Any solutions??

  • FrankatYahoo May 26, 2008

I have the exactly the same problem. No picture, only sound. No channel/input display when turned on. But it may go away after several days.

  • A0041044 Jun 01, 2008

I also have a 37" Sharp Aquos but mine has picture on every input except HD. TV, video work fine but HD is not displaying picture. This is trus for cable input and the DVR in the cable box that has HD shows recorded. HD recordings play through video with picture, just not in HD.

Sharp LC-40C32U: Problem is that after turning it on, the picture drops off almost immediatly. Turning on and off eventually gets the picture back on, but that's not what I paid for.

I have unplugged the TV from the power source and I thought that that may have fixed the problem, but this am, I still have the same problem.

I have checked the setup, no changes from the original settings from a year ago.

    Problem continues to frustrate me.

Sharp Aquos LC 32 HDTV LCD TV. Only 18 months old and I fear ready for the scrap heap! Same problem as others have reported... picture and no sound. Different tactics also as described by others seems to work for a while and then problem re-occurs. Switching on and off numerous times seems to eventually get a picture and then not switching TV off again ! Anyone any more ideas please

just had it fitted to the wall. worked fine beforehand but now no image whatsoever, although the sound is fine

  • Anonymous Aug 25, 2008

I am having the same problem but I can see a very faint picture. Did anyone try a light source replacement?

  • Anonymous Sep 05, 2008

same problem, very annoying, seems to be getting worse over time

  • Anonymous Sep 14, 2008

Same problem no picture but has sound. I noticed if I got right up to the screen there was a faint picture. I pushed the cc button and adjusted the backlighting all the way down. I then turned the tv off and on and it seemed to work fine. When I would adjust the backlighting up the picture would go away. I kept having to lower and lower the backlighting every few days to maintain a picture. Finally it bottomed out and I have no picture again. Of course Sharp has never heard of this problem.

same problem with my 32" Sharp Aquos.

  • Anonymous Oct 21, 2008

Same problem as Tamakitty, have tried getting fixed once but was told nothing is wrong with it!!!

  • marg12057 Nov 05, 2008

Our 32" Sharp Aquos has this problem. When the TV works correctly we get a message PLEASE WAIT and then the channel number in the bottom and sound when we turn it on. However, more and more frequently, when the TV turns on the screen says PLEASE WAIT then it just fades to a deep gray/black (no channel indication) and we get sound but no picture. We believe it is just a matter of time before it dies. Which is horrible because the TV is only 2 1/2 years old! Suggestions on a fix would be appreciated!!

Sharp Aquos LC 32 HDTV LCD TV. Same problem as others have reported... picture and no sound. Different tactics also as described by others seems to work for a while and then problem re-occurs. Switching on and off numerous times seems to eventually get a picture and then not switching. I also found that turning it on and leaving it for a minute or so like if it needed to warm up also works when you turn it off and on again. This really is bad, being that the tv was so expensive and having this problem so soon. If anyone know any better, please advise. Thanks

Same exact problem and this is already a replacement sent by hisense after I had to send back the defective one. Now take 2 after spending almost $700 on this 55 inch. Wtf? Customer service doesn't know which end is up. Will cut my losses and never ever buy another sharp product!!!

We have the same problem with our 32" Aquos. Turn on the TV and after a couple seconds the picture goes out but still have audio. So this solution doesn't permanently fix the problem, but it works instantly to get the picture back. With the TV turned off, tap the side of the set twice with the palm of your hand. Turn the TV back on, and VOILA, you have a picture. I know the last thing you think to do is to hit your TV to fix it, but that is often how my husband tries to fix things...this time it worked!!

  • Anonymous Jun 24, 2013

I HAVE THE SOLUTION!!!! My 52" was doing the same thing. It would work and then picture will go to snow and no inputs worked, the remote didn't even work! I would have to power everything down (Reciever, PS3, etc.) then it would work but no telling how long. Even touching the TV where the buttons are made it go to snow!! THIS IS WHAT YOU DO. Take the back cover off. Where the side buttons are, there is a board in there and it is touching the metal frame. Take something like a credit card and cut it enough so that it will not be sticking out, get some electrical tape and anchor the card to the metal frame so it will not fall out of place. You're basically protecting the board from touching the frame!! Put the back side back on and screw in place and your all set. My TV has been working perfectly ever since.

Hello to all who have posted Aquos TV sound but no picture. I had the same prob and for weeks found different ways to get it to work but, finally all solutions failed and it was a trip to sharp (reason I had not done it previously was TV bought in Germany and now live in Italy but warranty honoured). I believe from the amount of Aquos TVs in the repair shop and the fact that the guy said come back in 2 days he knew exactly what the fault was and therefore think sharp should be recalling all the TVs to sort the problem out! I am sorry for the people whose warranties have ran out. My TV started playing up after only 14 months.

Use component cables (red, green, blue) for picture instead of HDMI. Then also use a form of audio cable also, as the component cables will pass HD picture but no sound.

Call Sharp at 1-800-237-4277. There may be a firmware update to fix this issue. Good Luck!

I can't find the gentlemens name that posted this already but I can tell you that his solution was correct. I did mine just a little differently.
1. First take all the screws holding the entire back panel out with a small Phillips screwdriver.
2. Remove the entire cover.
3. The board that is directly behind the hdmi inputs has five screws in it. Loosen them all but don't remove them and push the metal trim that's around the board away from the board to where there is a small bit of separation from the metal trim and the board and retighten the screws.
4. Double check that it has a gap on all sides and replace the back cover of the tv. It is a very easy process and not at all as intimidating as it seems.

Nothing but white screen. no picture, no sound

Well, it's hard to say what part needs replacing. It maybe the MAIN UNIT board, LCD CONTROLLER board, or the SIGNAL board.
The cheapest way to fix it is have a repair shop tell you which board is bad. Then replace the board yourself.
Here's the best place to get parts for it at a decent price:
http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=lc-46d62u
Just look through this site to get an idea of what parts a going to cost. I know the repairman would charge double for the same part plus labor to install it.

That's the best advice I can give you.
The TV is defiantly worth repairing than replacing it.

Sharp aquos 42"

Check the settings in the TV set for HDMI sound on the input of the TV that you are using. Try another HDMI cable. It may be defective.

It is also possible that there is a compatiblity problem for the HDMI sound between the TV and the computer's sound protocol.
