Grinding noise from scanner - HP Officejet 6110 all-in-one

When I turn the printer on I hear a grinding noise. Upon closer inspection I see that it is the belt under the glass scanner, it takes the scanner cartridge out towards the center of the glass and on it's return to the start position seems to get stuck on something, thereby causing the noise. I have opened it up several times cleaned it out moved it back and forth manually. It worked for a short while then started again. I can't see anything that would cause it to jam, I even looked at all the white plastic gears in the housing where the belt wraps around and still can't find anything causing it to get stuck like it does. Is there any way of disconnecting the scanner and still use the photo copier and printer? I can live without the scanner.

Unplug the power. Plug back in, while simultaneously holding hash (#) and (6) buttons, until S-reset is displayed (sometimes this can take like forever) but it is a documented HP mode.... Then set up machine using 1 key to confirm options and arrow keys to select options.

To enter another maintenance mode (fat lot of good that will do you), press and hold * and #, then press 1 and then 2 and then 3 (or 5) for a variety of different options, which include testing of the scan bed. This of course only works once the scan bed has initialised...

Or: take out all cartridges and close doors. Wait until it complains, or indicates a cartridge jam.

Regards
All-knowing.

SOURCE: I recently aquired a HP psc 2410 all in one

There is little or no value in older printers.
However the unit has gots its positioning confused.
Try switching off and on printer several time, opening lid for cartridge change to see if it can synch itself again.

I have an HP 6110 is always has a grinding noise. No functions work. HP just want me to buy a new machine. They are bad quality 3 in one's. That is for sure.

All of the printers in this price class are of about the same quality. The replacement for the 6110 is now a 6410 or possibly 6510. The price has fallen to well under $150. Repair would cost upwards of $400. You be the judge.

Scanner doesn't initialize on HP 6110 all-in-one

HP.com doesn't have any answers to this question on their support pages, but it sounds like a mechanical problem. Sounds like you'll need to take it in for service.
