How do you disassemble/access the control panel to replace parts?

The display board failed (part # 8205663) and I received the replacement part from KitchenAid. I need to access the controller interface board to swap out the part but I don't see any screws securing the trim over the controls.

Do I need to remove the entire unit from it's cutout to access the cover screws from the backside or does the control panel trim piece somehow snap on/off?

I have the repair part list, installation instructions, and tech sheet PDFs but none are clear on the method.

Thanks

SOURCE: Kitchenaid KBMC147HSS0 Bulb replacement

If it's the one that lights the cooktop, it's normally beneath the bottom cover.

In some cases, it's located in a compartment behind the grille that goes across the top of the unit.

I have a diagram at my site which helps you find & replace many GE cooktop and cavity light bulbs. It may help. It's at http://207.234.249.73/mwd/ge_lamp_replacement.jpg

Please let me know if that helps or not.

If i am showing a SE error, meaning a shorted membrane keypad, would part DE94-01647A be all that I would need to replace

"SE" error means you have a failed membrane keypad.

The best way to solve the problem is to replace the control panel frame, which comes with a new keypad installed.

It is part number DE94-01647A available from The Pros here for $39.01 plus shipping. Here is a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes. If you have any trouble getting the grille off once the screws are removed, slide the hood vent grille to the left about 1/4", then then pull it forward. On some models there are L-shaped clips that fit into a slot to hold bottom of the vent. Next, disconnect the keypad strip as shown in the photo below, then remove the screws that hold your circuit board in the old frame. fetch.cgi?redirect=http%3a%2f%2fwww.fixya.com%2fuploads%2fimages%2f34374fd.jpg Then carefully (since the display is made of glass) move your circuit board to the new frame, and reassembly is the reverse of disassembly. Starts on own F2 appears

Hi,

Unplug the oven for few minutes, say 30 minutes and then turn it on.If the problem persists, you need to replace keypad. This is a quite easy repair. You would take the grill off along the top over the door. Once off you should see the screws holding the control panel in place. Remove these screws and remove the control panel. You will now have access to replace the part. Please be aware that the unit stores lethal voltage even when unplugged.

F2 means the touch pad has failed, the manufacturer recommends you replace the touch pad and if this fails to clear the problem replace the control board. The manufacturer recommends this but the problem normally relates to the touch pad. The control board sits just behind the touch pad so is accessible by removing the control panel.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

How do you replace the control panel on the JVM1740DM1BB my buttons no longer work(microwave oven)

You have a failing membrane keypad.

On this model, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

It's actually a pretty easy do it yourself job.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Next, disconnect the strip as shown in the photo below, then remove the screws that hold your circuit board in the old frame.

Some connectors have a lock:

Then carefully (since the display is made of glass) move your circuit board to the new frame, and reassembly is the reverse of disassembly.

The part number you need to to order is WB07X11040 and you can get it the Pros here for $143.31 plus shipping.

Frigidaire microwave model fmv152ksa Some of the buttons on the console do not work. The number 5 does not work (if I hit timer & any other #, the # will show up, but 5 will not show up) the clock on...

If you're saying that some digits or segments on the display do not light up, then I would first suspect grease or moisture on the control circuit board.

If it's just that some pads on the keypad will not respond, I would say your membrane keypad is failing.

I would first give it a "hard reset" by unplugging it for 2 minutes, then trying it again.

If it still fails, I would remove the control panel assembly (see the disassembly video here) and inspect the circuit board for green, gray, or white residue or grease.

The membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, but comes already installed on a new control panel frame, which is part number 5304464130 which you can order from the Pros here.

To replace that, you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below) and move your circuit board into your frame.

Need to replace membrane for kitchen air micro khms105ebs

There are two options for repairing this unit when its keypad fails:

1. Replace just the membrane keypad. If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

It is part number 4358545 "membrane keypad" and you can get it for $91.00 here.

2. Replace the control panel subassembly, which comes with a new keypad already mounted.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

It is part number 8172103 controller sub assembly and you can get it for $188.51 here.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Next, disconnect the strip as shown in the photo below, then remove the screws that hold your circuit board in the old frame.

The brightness of the display panel on the GE XL1800 is so dull I cannot even read it. How do you increase brightness?

There are two main causes for this:

- Dust & other particle buildup on the front of the display gass and the rear of the display window. This can be cleaned.

- Your vacuum display tube is wearing out and the control circuti board must be replaced.

Cleaning the display is easy, but you need to be careful so you don't break the glass.

First you would unplug the microwave or turn off its breaker.

Then see the video here that shows you how to remove your control panel assembly in less than 5 minutes.

Next, disconnect the keypad strip as shown in the photo below, then remove the screws that hold your circuit board in the plastic frame.

6c2e7e2.jpg

Then carefully (since the display is made of glass) remove your circuit board.

Using a soft cloth (since paper towels can scratch) lightly dampened with non-ammonia cleaner (since ammonia can damage some polycarbonate plastics), gently wipe off the front of the glass.

Then gently wipe off the back side of the plastic display window in the plastic control panel frame.

Reassemble, reinstall, and power it up, and it should be brighter, sometimes a whole lot brighter!

If that does not brighten it up enough, then you will need to replace the entire circuit board, since the display tube on this brand is not available as a separate part.

You can use the disassembly instructions above, and the board can be ordered by entering the full model number from the tag in or on your unit here.

For those with other brands, or whose model does not show up there, see this page for tips to finding helpful exploded views and ordering appliance parts and accessories.
