I am an electronic tech. Can someone explain how to reset protection activation on TX-DS787. I do not think there is any thermal, voltage or current issue which triggers this since Onkyo work shop reset this three times when I took it there. It comes back after few months.

Did you try to ask this question on the support forum from Onkyo? because I don't know what you mean with reset.
When a device is defect, there is no reset button, to repair it. Only what software is involved or settings in a memory that can lose settings when the power is down, can be "reset" Onkyo USA Support Forum Index page
What it sounds like you are describing is the protection relay turning on then imediately turning off for the time period mentioned. That would indicate a possible short in the circuitry. Probably a capacitor that is intermittant or even a transistor about ready to fail. This is probably not something you can look for if you are not an electronic tech. Find a reputable shop and get it fixed before it quits and does more damage. Let me know how you make out.
You should be able to get this directly from Onkyo. What is the problem tthat leads you to believe that the board needs to be replaced? Realize that the board could cost upwards of $100 or more.
Hello, I am sorry about your issue. Your hook up should have nothing to do with the remote. You should get some functions like on/off, volume control. Thank you, Onkyo, USA
You can download the manual from the link below:

c. Power On Volume
This sets a designated volume setting for the TX-DS787 to be set
every time that the power is turned on. This prevents the TXDS787
from being turned on while it is set to an extremely high
volume and suddenly output very loud sounds. For the absolute
volume display method, this can be set between min and max. For
the relative volume display method, this can be set between ??
and 18 decibels. If you do not mind having the TX-DS787 turned
on with its current volume setting, set this to "Last."
