I will assume that you have not messed with anything and it just stopped working. So try these steps:

1) Check the power plug, make sure it is plugged into the wall and also into the back of the computer.

2) Check to see that the switch is "On" on the back of the power supply if there is one.

3) Take the case off and look at the power button, try to press it without the case on, perhaps the power button is broken. If that doesnt work try and see if the little wires on the back of the power button are connect and bot pushed off.

4) Check the cables to the power supply, ensure they are connected to the motherboard and not disconnnected.

5) If all of the above do not work, take a power supply from another system and plug it in to *********** board, see if the computer boots normaly then. If that works you can assume the power supply is shot.

Let me know if there is anything else.

How can you check a computer power supply. (Emachines T1742) Shouldn't you be able to do that with a volt/amp meter? Do you have to short two connector pins to simulate the computer on-off switch?

In order to turn it on if the motherboard wont do it yes, you have to short out the green and a black wire for it to turn on. Volt meter is handy to check for proper voltages: 12v, 5v, 3.3v, also should be test when the computer is under full load. It is also recommened to check for bad capictors on all computer compentents including the power supply. Usually on store bought computers the power supply starts to give out, and the caps buldge, and if its left unfixed it causes caps in other places to go out. If there are caps bulding on the power supply and/or other stuff, buy new capictors of the same voltage and same or slightly higher UF rating, I recommend Rubycon or Nichon from badcaps.net. Hope this helped.

ET 1161-05 IS NOT TURN ON THE POWER SUPLLY IS OK THEY SAID THE PROBLEM IS MOTHER BOARD BUT IN NOT SURE .

If the motherboard is bad, generally the problem is bad Electrolytic Capacitors.

Visual signs of capacitor failure,

The eMachines ET-1161 uses an ECS MCP61GM-PM motherboard

Who tested the Power Supply? You or them?

Has the test been performed to see if the problem is a bad Power On switch, or the Power Supply?
If you want to know how to perform this simple test post in a Comment.

Do you have access to a multimeter, or is a $5 to $10 multimeter in your budget?

When i turn the power on the green power supply light goes out and doesnt turn onand the computer wont turn on

Follow these:
  1. Unplug the computer.
  2. Disconnect the power supply from the motherboard and all other accessories.
  3. Replug the power supply.
  4. Connect the green wire (PSON) of the power supply by way of a jumper wire to any black wire (ground).
  5. The power supply should turn on with its fan. If not, it is defective and should be replaced.
  6. Check the ATX12V connector of your motherboard. It is were you removed the 4-wire, 2 yellow and 2 black, connector of the power supply. Check the continuity of the yellow wires to the black ones. It should be open, otherwise it is shorted and your processor is defective and should be replaced.

Wont power up

Helo,

If the power supply from your friends old computer may not fave all of the correct plugs to power up your computer. You system needs 2 plugs going to the motherboard one with 20 pins and one with 4 pins. Besure you have the correct plugs. The second thing to check is recheck the friendss power supply in another machine. Last option is that when your power supply overheated and died that it damaged your motherboard and you may have to replace it too.

Emachine wont start

remove all external and internal peripherls.

example for external: mouse, monitor, keyboard, printer.

Internal: hard drive, memory modules, video cards, modem (if there's any), optical drive or dvd drives.

just leave the motherboard, power supply and processor intact, try turning on the computer with out those components mentioned. see if you get a beep sound before it turns off, but if not the most logical part that needs to be replaced on this type of problem is the power supply if that doesn't work the next thing to do is replace the motherboard. hope that helps

hit me back on the results. thanks!

EMachine T2824 does not turn on. Power cord/power supply seems O.K.

There are just too many eMachine models to be familiar with every one, however, as a preliminary inspection, remove the side panel, and turn the computer on to see if you see a green "Health" light. This will give you an initial clue as to how to pursue the problem. eMachines have historically had power supply problems. If you do not see a green health light on the motherboard, then your power supply is defective. A power supply supplies various voltages + - 5V, + - 12V ,etc. A power supply can be easily tested by a local shop with the proper test equipment. You might start there if you are a DIY! Short of that, you can purchase a power supply for under $65.00.

Puter wont turn on

try to unplug again then plug in switch-o the power if it won't work then your power supply is busted you need to replace the power supply. if you want to make sure dismantle the power supply that connects to the motherboard, the connector has 20pins, then plug the power supply connect pin green and pin grey if the fan will rotate then the power supply is still okay.. if your power supply is ok check your outlet voltage if there is power including the circuit breaker that supplies power from this outlet.
