A few days ago had to buy new DSL modem. Have tried w/o luck to link 2 computer 'network' with Ethernet cable from each, linked to two port RJ-45 connections on the Netgear Ethernet Hub EN104TP. The Motorola (style "MSTATEA") DSL modem is linked to EN104TP, port 4 (Rx), with Ethernet cable, as well. DSL modem is connected w/ 'purpose' cable, provided by manufacturer, directly to a filter at the phone jack The iMac (10.3.9) will work w/ direct link to modem, but not through EN104. The HP netbook, Windows 7, will work w/ direct link AND through EN104. What's up? Previously had loaner Belkin Router and Mac worked fine with that, as did HP.
Are you sure you got a compatible modem? They are not all alike.

Make sure your network card on the computer is enabled and properly installed. Also try replacing the cable with one that is known to be good. I hope this helps. Good luck.

only thing you need to get a 3.3v adapter. your hub will work when to turn it on.
i guess it uses 5mA.

If it's an SMC with a little luck you'll find the drivers for your specific model number, Otherwise, go to SMC Site and search for your model number. If it's not an SMC device, let me know what brand and model number it is.

The thing is that this is not a router as I know. It has to be a switch. As I know.
You still need a router to connect to the internet and do the routing. First check that.
To configure the network, you have to connect 3 PCs to your switch. Connect the switch to a router. Use router's uplink or auto sense ports. Connect both the ports with a straight through cable. If you don't have such port in the new router (when you buy, check it first), use a standard ethernet port. But you have to use a cross-over cable. Then go to router's login page and log in. Set the dhcp. It will assign adresses to your switch and PCs also. Make sure you don't have static configurations in you machines which may confuse by duplication. To use dhcp, set you machines' IP settings to obtain IP and DNS automatically. Set the default gateway IP as the router's IP. Then open a command prompt and ping the router. Then ping the switch(first do that). Then ping other PCs. After verifying the connectivity, plug the cable(internet) and your router has to have such a port. Go to WAN settings and do any other configuration. Cable internet (if its adsl instead of TV cables), you will required to provide authentication information with other settings. For cable internet instead of ADSL, the configurations might be different and I don't have experties on that (cable TV used as a medium to access the internet). So hopefully this will do your task.

I need you to use an ethernet cable, log onto the router, and make some changes. the router ip is http://192.168.2.1. Then click LOGIN.(By default, the password is smcadmin. The default is case
sensitive.)
