Not sure if you can help with this question, but do you know how to get this mower to mulch? I bought it second hand and cannot figure out how to convert it from side discharge or bagging to mulching.

Thanks,
John

I have this mower (b&d mm525 -- bought it 10 years ago). There is a black semi-circular plastic insert that blocks the side discharge and forces the clippings back onto the lawn as you mow. This insert came with my mower originally and I had to buy the side bagger.

Most lawn mower mfgs offer a mulching kit which usually consists of a metal plate to block the discharge opening and a mulching blade which just has a longer sharpenned cutting edge.
With a little labor you can make your own.

With the Black and deckers, I think you just take the blade off and turn it over. That wil direct the grass clippings down into the ground.

Hello blumph,

I can think of only one or two things that are causing your problems. It could either be approx. a $14.00 switch in the handle that has shorted out, or 2 bad brushes $1.75/ea.on the armature (motor). Both are fairly simple fixes with just a screwdriver and maybe pliers. You might also check and see if the power cord has been chafed or damaged and is shorting out.

I would like to buy a petrol lawn mower, i have found out there are mulching lawn mowers on the market, what are your views on this type of mower

Mulching mowers are great if you dont have the time to rake the excess grass or the means ( time or ability) to dispose of te collected remains. The mower will mulch te grass right back over te top of the cut grass with minimal apperance of grass being left behind, if you kep up on the cutting schedule that is. Better for larger areas where "lines" would usually remaine with a non mulching mower.
