One of the two stereo speakers gives a hissing sound. The other one does not. I exchanged the cables between the two and the problem remains. The speaker is 15 years old but worked very well until now.
If you already switch the speakers to make sure that is NOT the receiver , then theres two things , check the TWEETER or check the capacitor or Crossover inside the speaker box , you gonna need a multimeter for this task . hope it helps
ok, I suggest to take it to an authorized audio specialist , and also who carries the BRAND ONKYO , dont let them replace any part with some generic one , you have a HIGH END speaker and it should be treated like one for sound quality. try the yellow pages for this information eg. SONY , YAMAHA , BOSE , ONKYO . . . .

thanks. you mean I better take it to somebody that knows what he is doing and has the right tools. Can you give me a pointer ?
M-audio speaker, brand new. I know it's not blown because you can still get "thuds" out of it by introducing the leads to the powered speaker and also when you turn off the powered speaker you hear a thud.
