I have a Canon MP780. When I changed the Black 3e cartridge, it would no longer print in black. I tried 3 different ink cartridges to no avail. I did so many deep cleanings that I used half an ink cartridge. No luck. I cleaned the printhead. Still nothing. So I installed a brand new printhead. No black. All other colors print fine. Any clue?
Hello!
Please check the "Rplacing an ink tank" part of the manual. Hope it will help you.

Excellent solution. May want to run the maintenance clean head action from the printer menu on the printer and also print a horizontal line test page to make sure the heads are aligned properly.
SOURCE: 3e Black cartridge won't print
I'm not an expert but I go through a lot of ink.. I have found that even with new ink some of the tanks of ink aren't any good especially with compatible which i buy a lot of because it's a lot cheaper (ebay). With that ink I have gone through 10 cartridges in a row before finding one that worked correctly again (I mean out of 100+ cartridges hitting a run of 10 that where bad but the rest good.)
Also, a tech for epson once told me to hit deep clean 7 times in a row before a head check to clean their nozzles.. That has helped with my printer and at Fry's electronics, they have a cleaning solvent in kit, haven't tried it, but i have run alcohol through mine but I'm told that is very ******* the print head (dissolves the glue).
Hope that helped..

To Fix the stupid Cyan, just unplug the printer, it may take more that one time unplug, its stupid problem, printer needs to reset, I have a full ink of Cyan but it says this "There is more than one Cyan" on the dispaly on the printer, and windows that its missing. I don't know what idiots programmed the printer. but screw them.

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink or toner cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled (the absolute worst possible choice) or third party cartridges (2nd. Worst possible choice) that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks or toner causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead or photo conductors.
If you are using factory new ink or toner cartridges, then please call the manufacturer’s Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

After reading another thread on a self-help website about the tons of people having this exact same problem, I tried all the given solutions. One of them finally worked, and though it made no sense to me whatsoever, I'm thankful it worked!
I went to my printer control page, selected "printing preferences," then selected the "profiles" tab. Then I clicked on "use default settings" and "okay."
After that, the auto printhead align worked (it had been saying "failed" when I put the new printhead in), and the Windows test page came out fine with no problems. I have been able to print flawlessly ever since.
It seems to be a software gliche, which is what the original poster was saying. TONS of people are having this same problem.
