Check water quality. clean the drain filter in the machine. Check spray arm spray jet holes. Clean if clogged.

If you suspect salt chamber try removing all the salt by flushing with water externally. Refill with fresh salt.

Cloudy film left on glasses and white residue on edgings on inside of door as well as white residue streaks on inside of door.

The problem is hard water. www.dishwasherfilter.com has a product to solve this problem once and for all. It filters the water going into your dishwasher and removes the hard minerals that leave those spots. It is very affordable and even has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look with this product.

My GE dishwasher is 2 months old. The dishes are coming out with a film on them and the stainless steel inside has a white residue on it. I am using the recommended cascade products.

Do you know if you have hard water. It sounds like a hard water film. 1) purchase several applications of dishwasher cleaner from your local grocery store. Use them all back to back. 2) The only detergent I have found effective with hard water is called Somat. You may try your local appliance parts retailer for this. 3) The best solution is a water softener for your house.
To confirm if this is hard water, soak an affected glass or dish in the sink with 1/2 white vinegar and 1/2 water for a couple minutes. Then simply dry, if the film is gone its hard water.

Have you tried cleaning a single glasses with vinegar. Take a glass, soak it in vinegar for a couple hours, wipe it dry and see if the film goes away. If it does you know vinegar will work to help. I use vinegar with every wash now cause the film builds up quickly. If the film doesn't go away then it is likely that the glasses are getting etched by a corrosive detergent.

Glasses have milky film after running the dishwasher.

This "milky-like" film is hard water build up in your dishwasher that is depositing it back onto your dishes. To solve this you can get the product called Lemi-Shine at any store or on line. The first time you need to put about 2 heaping table spoons into the dishwasher with no dishes in it and run a normal cycle. Then load and put 1 table spoon in it for about 4 times and you will see the "milky-like" film go away. After that you will need to do a Lemi-Shine cleaning 1 a week. The Lemi-Shine has the directions on the container. I know this cause I use to have the same problem at my house and this works. Good luck. And thank you for the question.

Chalky dishes in dishwasher

Are you in a location with "hard" water, meaning that the water has alot of minerals in it like calcium? If so, you may may need to get the water treated with a water softener system, either at the dishwasher or for the whole house.
