You could have a clog in the housing underneath the dispenser where the water flows through a hose into the tub.
Pull the dispenser drawer completely out.
There is a tab that needs to be depressed to release the drawer and remove it.
Check the opening at the bottom of the housing just inside the dispenser housing opening to see if a small sock or garment is clogging this opening.
Reach down into this opening to see if an item is inside the hose.
This is the normal issue that will cause water to leak out of the dispenser housing.

Wash the dispenser drawer thoroughly with warm water. Make sure that you pull off the siphon covers and wash all siphon holes. This process is described in your owner's manual. Replace the dispenser drawer and try the washer again.

Whirlpool duet sport is clogged. Water is bypassing the detergent dispenser, and leaking out of the washer. No water is entering the washer. HOw can it be unclogged?

If you take the drawer out you may be able to gain access to where the clog is, if not remove the lid of the machine and you will see the fill hose from the drawer to the tub. You may be able to remove the pipe without removing the dispenser housing or you may be able to get to the blockage by removing the pipe from the drum.

Monthly Cleaning Protocol

  1. Hello. here it is: Use only the proper amount of HE (high-efficiency) detergent in your Duet. Whirlpool has stated that using too much detergent or fabric softener in the Duet can ruin a high-speed spin bearing responsible for spinning the basket. The replacement part is approximately $600. Whirlpool also claims that using too much detergent or softener can cause fungus growth.
  2. If you have mold and mildew problems with your Duet, check the filter trap. Unplug the washer and remove the three screws in the seam between the door and the bottom panel to remove the bottom panel. The Duet drain pump has a design flaw that leaves about a cup of water in the filter trap under the tub. Clean out that filter with bleach every month or two to eliminate mold problems.
  3. Put small items in a mesh bag before washing. There is a good chance they will get lodged in the Duet's filter trap, if you don't. Check the filter trap mentioned in Step 2 monthly to make sure there aren't any small items blocking the filter.
  4. Remove your detergent dispenser every month and wash with warm water and bleach to prevent mold buildup. Remove the fungus smell from your washer with Affresh washer cleaner. Always keep the washer door open when not in use.

Frontload washer leaking from under detergent dispenser

Hello, I worked on a problem like this a few days ago. Your problem is going to be a blockage in the inlet to the drum. To fix this problem find the inlet pipe normally located above the door behid a flap of rubber..push your fingers up there to see if you can feel a blockage..If not your going to have to remove the lid of the machine to access the pipe that leads from the detergent drawer to the tub. Look at the rear top of the machine..You will see three screws....remove them and push back and lift the top panel (lid) now you should be able to access the pipe. Pull the pipe off and clean it out, i suspect you will find a sock blocking the pipe :) If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again. Good Luck! Mike

Water pouring out from the detergent dispenser

Remove the washer top panel by removing the three screws in the back of the washer that hold the panel in place. With the three screws removed, the panel will slide back, then lift off. This will give you a full view of your dispenser and components. I strongly suspect that you have a hose leading from the dispenser to the fill tube along the door that may be either kinked or clogged. Inspect the hose for any kinks. You may have to remove it and flush with hot water. Let me know what you find. I hope this helps.

Whirlpool Duet Washer 8500 Dispenser Leaking

Ok try not to pull the dispenser too far out. When you pour the liquid detergent in the dispenser I belive it should say in the cup. For the shaking if the washer is not on a solid surface like a cement floor it will shake and walk if the floor is weak. Also make sure the delivery guys removed the 4 shipping bolts in the back. If the dispensor still leaks call for service bucause its new. Also some stores will exchange it if there is a problem within 30 days.
