It may have had an impact or a bit of grit/dirt may have lodged in it, try a tiny drop of sewing machine oil on a Q-tip and gently lube the lens protector
Hi! If you're sure you didn't damage the lens flat cable which connect to the motherboard, the focus of the lens unit you bought on ebay doesn't work. You can simply replace the back part (with focus) of the new lens unit with your old one. It requires soldering.
you have to open the cage of the camara gently & the put the betteries, then if you are catching the cam. from the screen side, you can see on the left side the wheel of the lences, in the same moment you are turning the cam, move that wheel with a little knife or anything you have, it will work.

I fixed this issue with my Sony Cybershot by gently (carefully) hitting the camera 3 times against a carpeted bench with the lens retracted and the camera turned off. It seems the lens gears were stuck. Now the camera works fine again.
Mine is a bit different- Mine turns on to the opening "Cybershot" screen, opens and shuts about 6 times, and then says "Please shut off and then on again" or something. AAH!! Im a photographer! HELP!
