Question about Nakamichi AV-7 Receiver

2 Answers

I recently aquired a used rotel rx102 stereo receiver and onkyo cp101 A turntable. I bought a new stylus needle for my turntable, and plugged the turntable into the phono jacks on the receiver and from there into regular (not powered) speakers. The volume is very low. A Guitar Center rep told me over the phone I need a pre amp. I thought the phono jacks took care of that. Do I indeed need a preamp?

If the receiver doesn't have a function specifically named PHONO, yes. Very few AVR's have phono preamps. They're not expensive. I'd check eBay.

I'm sure that you've solved this by now, but this receiver has phono jacks for both ceramic and magnetic carts. You might have your turntable plugged into the incorrect jack. And, yes, if you have a phono input, you have a preamp.

Also, this isn't a very high-powered receiver (7 wpc or somewhere in that range); if you're using speakers that aren't very efficient, that could lead to low volume levels.

When connecting AT-LP120 Audio technica turntable to Onkyo stereo receiver TX-8140 I get distorted sound - the turntable came with set cables installed to connect. How do I resolve this problem

hi,

instead of plugging your turntable into "phono in" on the amp just try a regular auxilary input like aux ,video, or cd. sounds like the turntable output isnt like the old ones and may be just a regular output.

Changing the needle-how to!

Replace the Needle with a new one (part No. PZP1004) . Remove the old Stylus (or Needle) by pulling it downwards gently, and push the new Stylus/needle in place as shown in the below photo.

I recently received a Viking Solid State Record Player. and I need to buy a needle/cartiridge for it but I dont know WHERE to buy it or WHICH NEEDLE to buy! This is the Model: N 2 SFG 249

You always go on the installed cartridge for any deck when finding the correct stylus (not called needles now). It should have a model number on it, put that into Google and you should find the stylus. You can always fit a new cartridge and stylus. It's just a question of which one will fit into the headshell. That way you can get better sound.

Broken stylus arm is it still possible to get another one and is it possible to fit it myself also new stylus needed as well

The stylus should not be a problem. Without knowing the make and model of the turntable, however, there is no way to respond about hte arm. You have listed this question under the Rotel receiver category, can you pelase supply the ,ake and model of the turntable? Also, supply any numbers that appear on the current stylus so I can verify that either the exact one or a similar substitute is available.

Thanks,
Dan

I just inherited an old Zenith console turntable and stereo combined. Stereo sounds wonderful, but when I play records, the sound isn't loud. Is this a problem with the needle or what? When I touch the...

Hiya, check and be sure the turntable is plugged into correct inputs, "phono"

If thats OK, then probably is the stylus but could also be the cartridge itself. Check the wires on the back of cartridge make sure they are fixed properly. If all Ok, then start with a new stylus first.

Hope it helps

Needle replacement...missing part?

To replace the stylus (N-6516 from your Sony dealer)

1.Turn off the amplifier
2. Protect the stylus with the stylus cover (it flips down 90 degrees)
3. Grasp the stylus holder (exposed when cover was flipped down) and pull it away from the cartridge body
4. Insert the stylus by pushing it in to the cartridge receptacle. Flip the stylus protector up.

Rotel PReamp, Can I directly Connect my powered speakers to the output

Hi,

Based on your post, the pre-amp is doing its job. What might be the mismatch would be the powered speaker system plugged into the output of the Rotel. Depending on what the "powered speaker system" is, it might be that it is a low impedance such as those used in computers whereas the Rotel requires high impedance to be connected to its output. What could be tried is to connect a regular amp or receiver to the Rotel.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
