Distorted sound on Technics SL-1200/1210

Just received my two Technics turntables (SL-1200 and SL-1210) along with my Pioneer DJM-350, but when everything is set up and I'm playing a vinyl, the sound is very deep and unclear, and also gets very distorted if I'm playing on high volume. I tried to connect the decks directly to my amp, and everything sounds fine, so there is nothing wrong with the cartridges or the amp.

You could be getting acoustic feedback from the speakers to the TT's. Lower the volume or somehow isolate them from room sounds and vibrations.

Looking for ground wire for Technics SL-B260U Turntable

There's nothing special about a ground wire! All you need is a piece of single standard wire that connects to an earth point on either the receiver - generally a screw terminal, or a earth point in your home. Say a metal pipe. Any electrical shop will have a strand of wire that will do the job.

Technics SL-D33 Channel drop.

There's nothing wrong with the turntable then. It's your receiver that's the problem. In order to hear a magnetic cartridge it has to go via a pre-amp. It's this pre-amp that has failed in your receiver. It's only used by a turntable so wouldn't affect anything else. You should be able to trace this pre-amp by following the turntable socket wires. It will probably be a small IC that has failed. If you look up the number you should find it.

Technics SD-L3 TURNTABLE

Does your receiver have a dedicated phono input? If not you'll need to use a preamp between the turntable and receiver. Your other turntable may have a preamp built in and the Technics not.

If this does not help, please post the brand and model of both your receiver and your other turntable.

BaD SouND

Do you have the unit in Turntable mode? Can you describe the distorted sound? Is it a hum, sound cuts in/out, scratchy sound? There have been alot of issues which plagued this unit. We get at least 1-2 a week in here for various issues. Although, I've never had one with distorted sound, that wasn't caused by something else (bad RCA cables, faulty mixer line, etc).

So make sure it is the unit. If so, you will need to take this in to a qualified service center for repair as determining the issue requires the tech run some test on the unit.
