Turntables that have magnetic cartridges must be connected to an amp that has a "phono" connection otherwise the sound will be too low. I have an Onkyo and that doesn't have one, so I suspect yours doesn't. So what you need is what's called a cartridge pre-amp. This will amplify the signal to the Onkyo. Search online, try Amazon for one.

When connecting AT-LP120 Audio technica turntable to Onkyo stereo receiver TX-8140 I get distorted sound - the turntable came with set cables installed to connect. How do I resolve this problem

hi,

instead of plugging your turntable into "phono in" on the amp just try a regular auxilary input like aux ,video, or cd. sounds like the turntable output isnt like the old ones and may be just a regular output.

Hi there, i just bought 2 Technics mkii

well" for a start, they need to go into a phono socket, this amplifies them.
i take it you bought 2 decks with the intentions of mixing, so you gonna need a mixer.
MIXER & DECKS SET UP:
1.decks into phono channels 1&2
2. black GROUND wires, go to GND screw on back of mixer
3. RCA master / booth Outputs on mixer to AUX / LINE-IN on amp.(not phono)

I just purchased a used Sony turntable PS LX 160H & am hooking it u Sony surround sound amp (there is no phono input but am using audio input) and getting sound but very low volume at max volume... How...

Just look around the web for a "Magnetic Cartridge Preamp".
You plug your turntable into this and the preamp in an aux socket of Surround Amp and the sound will be the same level as the other devices.

Technic 1210 deck

Make sure your 2nd turntable is connected to the PHONO input of your DJ Mixer or Receiver. If you have it connected to LINE IN or AUX IN, the turntable will be very low, as this model requires a phono pre-amp to amplify it's signal.

If this is set up correctly, then you might want to check your cartridge. Can you swap the cartridges out to see if the problem remains on the same turntable, or if it switches to the other turntable. If it switches, then you know the problem is with the cartridges.

If that checks out ok, you might have an issue with the RCA cables or Tonearm or both. At this stage, I would suggest taking it to a service center for assistance.

No Amplified Sound Coming Out...

Turntables need a preamp due to their very low output compared to modern components. The link above is the one I use. Try connecting to your receiver's phono input if you have one, also try the aux input. If neither of those work, obtain a preamp and you will soon be scratching with the best of them.

Sound is way too low

Make sure you are connecting the unit to the PHONO input on your receiver or mixer. If you do not have a PHONO input, then you need to purchase a PHONO PRE-AMP and then you'll be able to connect to any LINE or AUX level input.

Background huming

How does it sound when you just play straight vinyl through your system? If you still get that hum, issue might also be faulty RCA cables, and even cartridge. So you would need to test everything out.

You don't really need a pre-amp unless you are connecting straight into your pc from your turntable. In that case, yes you will need a pre-amp, and this actually might be the cause of everything. If you are going into a DJ Mixer or a receiver, and your turntable is connected to the PHONO INPUT connection, you do not need a phono pre-amp.

Here are some inexpensive PHONO PRE-AMPS.

Hope this helps some.
