Frozen shutting down page

When I want to shut down my laptop it stays on the shutting down page and doesn't completely shut down

    i started an ios upgrade hours ago and it has not completed and my ipad is frozen I cannot shut it down or stop the upgrade, there is an icon on the screen it is one of thoe that you get when you are waiting, an circle that rotates

Something is working in the background stopping the shutdown, try running msconfig, and see if there are any errornous programs running scripts

Depending on why your tablet is frozen, pressing the "Power" button -- sometimes called the "Sleep/Wake" button -- might turn it off. When playing games on my Kindle Fire 7" HD, the apps unexpectedly close and return to home screen
When was the last time the tablet was turned off (not just put into sleep mode)?
To turn off the tablet, hold the power button for two or three seconds, then tap "shut down" when asked if you want to shut down your Kindle.
After the device has completely turned off, press the power button to restart.

Screen frozen
You can try doing a hard reset by holding the power button and the home button down simultanously until the device completely shuts off and the Apple logo appears.

Kindle Fire
Press and hold the power button for fifteen seconds or so. If it prompts whether you want to shut down, ignore it and keep the power button pressed until it shuts off. Release the button, then press and hold for a second or two until it starts to reboot. Does it reboot and operate normally now?

My nook color has frozen screen and won't shut completely down

TRY a hard reset on the Nook if that doesn't work i know of this fantastic site BNTPrice.com that sells them for cheap. i hope this works for you

  1. Press the "n" button to display the quick nav bar.

  2. In the quick nav bar, tap the Settings icon.

  3. In the Device Settings section, tap Device Info.

  4. Tap Erase & Deregister Device.

  5. Stop. Think. Think again.

  6. If you really, really want to do this, go to Step 7. If not, tap the Back button.

  7. Tap the Erase & Deregister Device button.
