If you can tell me what the Os do you use, it could be must better.
On XP you can try this:
Boot computer and press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice when you See Windows welcome screen / login screen. It'll show classic login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in username field and leave password field blank, press Enter and you should be able to login Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".
On Win 7 or Vista:
Ctrl+Alt+Delete won't work, you have to use some windows password reset tool. I recommend Windows Password Reset.

As far as I know, You can reset windows user account password in safe mode(F8 when booting up). But if you forgot administrator password, you must reinstall windows OS or use the "Windows Password Seeker". Official site: http://www.passwordseeker.com
Nowadays, there are many password reset tools, but I haven't personally attempted them. Windows Password Seeker is a generally a extensively distribute edition though. After reboot the computer with CD/ USB, remove the lost or forgotten password and then log in to your computer without any password. Here is its official website, Hope it can help you: http://www.passwordseeker.com/howtouse.html
If you forgot your windows password you can reset or remove it with window password reset tool. I recommend this site http://www.reset-windows-password.com/how-to-reset-windows-password.html
If
you happen to forgot
windows
os password, you
could enter
into safe mode (F8 when booting up) to remove
windows password while
you forgot
user account password, but
if you forgot administrator
passwords,
there's
no way to change it, you should
use software
to recover admin
password. Yesterday
evening, I forgot my Windows admin
password. At
last, I
used Windows Password Reset 9.0 to reset
the
Windows password successfully. It's worth an
attempt.

Most machines are installed with no password at all (because they get lost/forgotten).. did you try not entering anything at all?
(sorry if this sounds patronising, but I've been caught by this a few times)
You can try rebooting your laptop into safe mode and press F8 while its booting up. The default admin user profile might not have a password. If so then you can go into "control panel". Go to "users" and choose the user profile that you cant remember the password. Change the password for the user and restart the computer entering the new user password.
