What is the error E74 on the Xbox360? what should i do?

My Xbox 360 has a similar E74 error. It can mean a lot of different things, but it's usually a hard drive issue. If you're lucky, that's what it will be for you too. Follow these steps for a possible fix:
  1. With everything plugged in and ready to go, remove the video cable from your Xbox 360.
  2. Turn your Xbox 360 on. It should start flashing red lights indicating that there's a video problem.
  3. Count slowly to 10. After 10 seconds, plug the video cable back in.
  4. Cross your fingers.
If this works, all you should have to do is follow this process every single time you turn your 360 on. It's a bummer, but it happens when parts age. If this doesn't work, try removing your hard drive completely (assuming you can). If that's all that will fix it, you'll need a new Xbox 360 hard drive... this could however still be covered by warranty if you're lucky!

System error E 74 is coming up on my xbox360

This problem occurs when the Xbox 360 console experiences a hardware failure. To verify that your console is displaying the E74 error message, follow these steps:
  1. Turn off the console.
  2. Turn on the console.
  3. Verify that your console displays the E74 error message.
If you are experiencing this problem, your Xbox 360 console must be repaired at our service center.
https://myservice.xbox.com/en-us/Pages/Welcome.aspx to start the repair process.

Microsoft covers repairs for the E74 error for a period of three (3) years from the original purchase date of the console. If you are outside the initial three-year warranty period, you can still receive console repair service from Microsoft for a fee for the E74 error.

How do i fix the x box 360 3 red rings of death

The Xbox 360 e74 error is a rather common problem on Xbox consoles, with similar roots to the now infamous red ring of death problem.
The e74 issue is actually caused by a problem with the scaler (ANA or HANA) chips located next to the graphics processor inside your Xbox 360.
It is believed that the error with the scaler video chip which causes the e74 error on your Xbox 360 is caused by overheating. This is also the cause of other errors such as the no video problem, as well as red lights in the power ring of an Xbox console.

To fix the Xbox 360 e74 code, there are a few steps you need to take-
1. Firstly, leave this article open, go to your Xbox 360 console and then remove the AV cable. Blow any dust out of it, then re-insert it snugly back into the console until a clicking is heard. Power on your console again and see if the problem has been fixed.
2. If that does not work, borrow another AV cable (get one off a friend or family member, or from your local video game rental shop) Try using this one in your Xbox 360.
3. If replacing the AV cable does not work, then you will have to repair the scaler chip and graphics processor inside your Xbox in order to fix the e74 problem. To do this, you will need an Xbox 360 repair guide, which will contain the video instruction files you need to be able to fix your console properly. You cannot fix the e74 yourself without one.
It is important to note that most Xbox repair guides focus on fixing the "red ring of death". However, the process for repairing the e74 will also be covered in the same guide as well, as it is extremely similar.

My xbox 360 has frozen, and all it says is E74. How do I fix this?

Your machine has succumbed to the RROD RED RING OF DEATH error.

The Xbox 360 e74 is one of the many types of Xbox error codes that can affect your console at any given time. Thousands of Xbox 360 consoles worldwide are affected by these various errors, and one of the most common of them is the e74 Xbox error, which is currently affecting your console, as well as preventing you from gaming on it. Today you are going to learn what causes the Xbox e74 problem, as well as whether you can fix it yourself.

The e74 Xbox error's principal cause is overheating, due to excess heat causing damage to various components, and eventually major malfunctions in the hardware of your console. Why is this heat able to build up and cause damage that leads to the Xbox 360 e74 error? This is actually due to cramped case design and a lack of cooling devices such as fans and heat sinks. Although overheating is ususally a problem for all electronic devices, the Xbox 360 does seem to suffer particularly badly from this issue.

Although you could fix your Xbox e74 problem by sending your Xbox 360 back to Microsoft for repair, the best method you can actually employ is to fix your Xbox yourself.
Here's why-
* You will be without an Xbox 360 console for at least a couple of weeks if you send your console away for repair. Why put up with this when you can fix the Xbox 360 e74 issue yourself in a matter of hours?
* If your warranty has expired then you will have to pay to have your console repaired, and although there is a cost involved in purchasing the necessary items for Xbox repair, you will still save around $100 by carrying out the repairs yourself.

If you want to fix the Xbox e74 error yourself, then you will need to invest in a video repair guide. These come in digital download format, and can be purchased online for a reasonable price (you won't need to spend anything over $30) You really need to buy one if you want to fix your Xbox 360, as written instructions just aren't detailed enough.

To ensure that you get the best deal, purchase one that covers ALL Xbox error codes (many only offer information about the "red ring of death", so you need to carefully read the sales page to ensure that it teaches you how to fix any type of Xbox error) Look also for a money-back guarantee, free customer support and free video samples to that you can check the quality of the product.

Some have used damp towels to bring the temp down - but ultimately, the proper repair entails disassembly of the xbox - down to the processor - removing the old hard thermal paste compund, adding new thermal paste, and re-assembling.

There are MANY guides and videos you can search google for to crack open your 360 case if you are up to the challenge.
