I've long lost instructions for my MP3 and I have a low battery message. I can't see how to change it, and wonder if it's an internal rechargable, or what? Can you advise me?

The battery is an internal battery and cannot be replaced. You may want to contact RCA to see what kind of replacement policy they have concerning the battery if it is no longer charging.
You can only put non-DRM iTunes music on your Opal (.m4a I think is the extension unprotected music, so if your music has this extension you sould be ok)
There is no important disk that comes with the RCA Opal. You can run the easyRip installer and during the install it will prompt you whether you want to "import" media from iTunes to easyRip (all this process really does is map to it, not copy it) and any media that gets imported by easyRip can be transferred to your player using easyRip's Player Loader module.
And follow the instructions to install it on your device. Older firmware did have issues with charging (though I think it was primarily with Windows 2000)
1 Is you can buy the starter kit for it. It has a wall mount charger usb power adapter, armband and carrying case.
2. Download the latest firm ware from RCA website. http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/product.aspx?product=408 After you download the firmware. Then plug mp3 player in usb device of your computer. Then click on the newly downloaded firmware and install it.
