I have a ten year old Proton Clock Radio RS-330, now Sangean RS-330. The flourescent display seems to be about half out, and the time display is barely visible in the dark. Can this be repaired, and by who? Thanks,

The display itself may not be the problem which may be related to the power supply for it instead. Some technical skills and a decent multimeter is the minimum you should have to determine the source of the problem.

If you are looking for a local service company, you should always post your ZIP code so a tech in your area is likely to respond.

Proton RS-420 clock radio can't get any AM or FM stations but the clock and the alarm work fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

Both AM and FM channels needs aerials to work. Usually the AM aerial is built in, and the FM aerial is a wire that need looping up. But if it was okay that last time you turned it on and you don't have a cat that chews wires, the radio section may have just failed. It is 32 years old. The other thing to check is that the volume control hasn't been turned down to zero.

Troubleshooting

My Sangean ATS800A wont come on, battery shows

Sangean h2o1 clock is flashing. The radio display doesn't flash - only the clock. I've reset the clock, changed the batteries, and generally played with the other settings. Can't figure out why the time...

Here's the thing: When you change the batteries, the radio thinks you need to reset the time, even though the time has been preserved and is correct even after you change the batteries. Here's what you do: Pretend you need to reset the time. With the radio off (recommended), press and hold the "Band" button with the "set" notation underneath it. The hour will flash. "Reset" the hour by using the tuning buttons, as you would if the radio were new, and then change it back to the correct hour. Press the "Band" button again and repeat the process for the flashing minute display. Press "Band" again to end the process. You will have successfully fooled the H201 into thinking that you have reset the time, and the time display will have stopped flashing. (This does not appear to work if you do not actually pretend to change the hour and minute and just keep pressing the "Band" button -- you have to go through the procedure as though you were actually changing the time.)

Tuning drifts

It sounds like the tuner is out of alignment. A number of things can cause this kind of problem. However, a realignment is a very costly proposition, especially when considering the used value of the Proton 320. If you really like this radio, you might want to try buying a used example off of eBay. They come up very frequently. Only... be selective. Don't pick anything from a seller without a lot of good feedback. And don't overpay ($50 tops).

Sangean PR-D3L - How do I change between 12 and 24

Archer, I have read the entire PR-3DL manual and there appears no mention of a 12/24 hr setting, unlike certain other Sangean radios. The instructions for setting the alarm do not mention 'a.m.' or 'p.m.' .

Apparently, the clock is a 24:XX:XX display only.

Proton Model RS-420 clock radio lost power back-up

The battery is located on the display circuit board at the front of the unit. It's a bit of a pain to get to.

You'll need to open the case, unplugging the wiring harness plugs so you can take the two halves apart. Next, remove the strip of circuit board at the top where the snooze/alarm and other top button switches are. Then you will be able to get to all of the screws holding the display circuit board to the front of the case. The battery is soldered to the board. I'm not sure what type or voltage it is, but it's probably a single-cell NiCd at 1.2v. I think the best replacement would be a supercapacitor but I need to figure out exactly what the battery is first.

It's a great radio that's worth fixing. If anyone can tell us what the battery is, please post! Mine says "860" on it.

Cheers,

- Phil
