TV screen shows static

My TV is strictly a game TV. It has no antennae for cable or satellite. It's just for Game Cube, Wii, and DVD. My little brother tried to watch a DVD and he accidentally hit the menu button on the TV and now our TV only shows that black and white static stuff, you can't even watch movies. It acts like it's not hooked up to anything even though it is. I tried unplugging it but that didn't work.

I believe that what you are watching are the responses of the portable DVD player on screen menu. How about just trying to get the tv to work for now, then try the DVD again?...accordianman

SOURCE: The remote to our TV is caput - has been for years

Unless the TV has an input select function available from the front panel buttons, you're out of luck. Many sets only have basic functions through the front panel and rely on the remote for the rest. The original remote had a button to switch the inputs and now you need it back.

The only sure solution is to buy an exact replacement remote. There are several companies online that can probably provide one. They tend to be costly, though. Your other option is to look for a universal replacement that has a button marked "input" or "tv/av" or similar, and hope it will work with your set.

One more option is to get an RF converter, available at TV retailers, Radio Shack, etc. This device takes the audio and video signals from another device and converts it to a channel 3 or 4 output signal that your TV can tune in. Then you can just put the TV on that channel. It would work, but you lose some picture quality and possibly stereo sound effects.

Sorry I don't have a happier answer. Thanks for using Fixya.

Using the buttons on the TV, go to the setup menu, and scroll to "edit channels" by pressing "setup" button until "edit channels" is highlighted. Then, using the channel up/down buttons, go to channel 91 and press + volume. This should add the video input to your channels. 92 is S-video. It is helpful to have what ever device (dvd player or game console) hooked up and powered on, so you know when you are on the right channel, but it should be 91.

Well I think that it might be the av cable thats causing the black gray and white
screen on the tv so you could try a new av cable.

It sounds like you may have switched some video setting that your TV can't handle. Try removing the battery and leave it out for awhile (hour) and see if that helps. The battry is in small bay on the botton of the wii and is held in with 1 small screw. Good Luck

I'm not sure how to get the Game cube connected through the VCR/DVD player... the tv only has a cable screw in connection, not the color cables, I have already got it so the VCR is connected to the tv,...

Plug the game cube RCA (speaker type) OUT jacks into the VCRs video/audio IN jacks(RCA TYPE)--yellow is video. You may have to press the tv/vcr button on the vcr to get the picture to pass through--or change your vcr setting to AUX in. but this should work for you-if not let me know.
