I have a 1980’s 2 hp Evinrude out board motor. What oil/gas mixture is. Recommended?

Depends on the type of oil you choose, there are several different oils 20:1, 40:1, 50:1, due to the age I would start with 20:1 oil, the worst that could happen is it would run with an oil rich mixture, be sure and use lead free gasoline if possible. all of the oils will work, but due to the mixture it affects the amount of gasoline going through the carburetor jet. More oil less gas, less oil more gas.

I added 0.4 oz of oil to 1/2 gallon of gas too much to mixture. How can I dilute the mixture without starting over?

??? Take a gallon gas can, pour the I/2 gallon oil/gas mixture into it and then add the correct amount of undiluted gasoline to the correct mixture. For instance, if you need a .2 oz/I/2 gal ratio then add 1/2 gal gas to what you already have. Remember, it is always better to have a little too much oil than gas.

Need gas and oil mixture ratio

The gas oil ratio on all Poulan models is 40:1.
First, I recommend a synthetic oil mix if you can find it and also recommend running a 93 octane gasoline.
Second, I would mix no more than 1 gallon at a time, unless you are doing a lot of cutting.
Gas/Oil mixtures do not last that long. I don't give them more than a month, and generally try to run any mixture within 2 weeks.
Think about it, gas cam gum up on it's own when let sitting for too long. Imagine what it can do with oil mixed in it.
Good luck with your saw, and be careful when cutting.

What kind of gasoline?

  1. Check your manual for the proper gas-and-oil mixture. For almost all modern two-stroke engines, a 50-to-1 mixture is recommended. That requires about 2 1/2 oz. oil for every gallon of gasoline.

  2. Use only two-cycle oil for your mixture. This oil is made especially for these engines and can be purchased at gas stations, hardware stores or any other place where you buy regular motor oil.

  3. Pour the proper amounts of gas and oil into a fuel can. Shake the can well to mix it.

  4. Label your gas can with the mixture ratio. You can use the same mixture for other two-stroke engines.

  5. Shake your fuel can thoroughly every time you refuel. After a while, the oil will settle out of the gas, and shaking it up ensures that the oil and gas are properly mixed again before you put the fuel into your chainsaw.

Mixture is typically 40 or 50 to 1, gas to oil. The exact mix should be stamped on the gas cap.

Gas/ oil mixture

If it is a riding lawn mower it is probably not a two cycle engine so there would not be a gas oil mixture. It must be a 5 horse power or higher so it would use straight gas. I hope this will help you. donnyb60
