I have a Sony Wega SXRD. First issue was the block thing and they fixed it for free. Then the projector lamp went bad, again underwarranty. Last year I replaced the projector lamp with a Philips I bought from frys. No problems. I am on my second from fry's online and it goes green for about 5 blinks and then goes back to red. Two bad projector lamps? Shipping hurt them?

no, had the same problem. Its the lamp ballast also called the lamp power block. It supplies power to the lamp, any how some repair shop wanted $450 to fix it, so i ordered the part from sony, part #146879816 ($116.25), trust me this is the part I double checked with many different places. Any how fixed it my self took about 15 minutes, just take the back cover off and the part is right there just kind of follow the screws and the 3 wires, super easy job, I suggest you replace the bulb at the same time, dont by a cheap bulb just get it from sony

Same thing happened on mine, you need to replace the bulb, on our TV I have 2 kids so the TV was always on but lasted 2 and a half years which impressed the warranty people. From what I have heard the average life is about 2 years. I have the same SXRD TV.

Measurement the lamp continuity,if is OK the problem in the driver section.

On that particular model I believe there is both a lamp indicator light and then the power indicator light. If it is lamp related the lamp indicator light (LED that looks like a sun in a cup...) would be on.
If the power indicator light is flashing red to green, that is a self diagnostic code, and you will have to contact an authorized Sony repair fascility for them to translate the problem. The error codes are not listed in the user manual, since most are not user serviceable.
