My internet connection works when i use the ethernet cable directly into my laptop, but i want wireless and it doesnt seem connect as soon as i un-plug the cable.
I have changed the network settings the password and tried numerous times to sign in but just keeps saying not connected!!!
The Sky technical woman i spoke to said that it could be my lap-top but it works fine in other wireless spots??
I have just purchased an ipod touch, but it is locked out of internet access by the encrypted security set up on my Belkin 802.11g wireless router. I dont know if I can configure my ipod to work with this, but thought alternately I could temporarily disable my security when I wish to connect with the ipod. Im concerned that reactivating my security could mean starting from scratch if my security settings(Hex pairs) are not retained, and I dont recall this being straight forward first time around. Some guidance would be much appreciated please. I have just purchased an ipod touch, but it is locked out of internet access by the encrypted security set up on my Belkin 802.11g wireless router. I think the problem is not your laptop configuration. Can you check the setup configuration of the router it's maybe the wireless function is disable. Or try to reset the router to his default configuration. Press the reset bottom of the router for 15 second then try to connect your wireless connection if still not working setup again the router configuration.

Are you talking about direct-connecting via Ethernet to a cable or DSL modem? You shouldn't have to disable wireless to do that. If the cable modem has an open Ethernet port, you should be able to run a straight-thru Ethernet Cat-5 cable between that port and the Ethernet port on your laptop. The laptop should recognize that it is connected to the modem through the direct connection. Check the manual for the cable modem or information supplied by your ISP for connection details. You may have to do some setup on the modem to get an Internet connection, like having your ISP 'activate' the modem. Just be sure your Ethernet cable is a straight-thru, standard Ethernet cable, and not a 'cross-over' cable such as is used to transfer data between two computers.
Maybe your laptop is configured to be the Internet server that is why every time you disconnect the Ethernet cable you lost connection. Your laptop is the one that gives connection to other computers.
If you connect the computer directly to the modem, does it work? If that works then the modem is working. Now connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router. You will need to open the set up page of the router to check the settings of the router. You can set up the router without the CD also. It is very easy. Click Here for step by step instructions about how to set up the router
If your laptop has a wireless capability you should be able to connect to the wireless network of your router, just view the available wireless network select the wireless name of your router and connected to it if it already say connected try to disconnect the ethernet cable from your laptop and access the internet wirelessly..........
You have to check if your computer can connect to the modem with an Ethernet cable. This will tell you if the ethernet port on the modem is working. if that does not work call your cable provider.
Next thing after you get the instructions above done.
Press the reset button on the back of the router> press it in for 30 seconds then let go and pull out the power. Connect the router up the way it should be before you reset by the way. check if you have internet if you do not follow hte directions at teh link below.
Your router must be connected properly to the cable modem. This must be to the wan port on the router.
Next, the router must be set-up accordingly to recognize the modem's internet connections. Please ask for the IP address.. and other relevant informations from your internet provider.
Set -up your computer using the internet connections wizard on each of your respective computer.
This should work fine if all connections were correctly configured.
