Connect R5100 to DVR/Monitor

I use a Time Warner cable box/DVR and want to connect my AKAI Plasma HDTV to the R5100(KLH).

Problem is I can get sound through the stero KLH but when the KLH is turned off, there is no sound from montior.

I understand there is output/input cables but am missing something here. When I had a VCR it worked fine, sound from monitor that is.

So I want to go from dvr--klh-monitor at will.

any help would be appreciated.

tks all

Use component audio to the HDTV and optical audio to your KLH reciever. The component and optical are always active at the same time. I work for TWC if you have more questions.

How do I hook it up to a cable box?

The KLH R5100 only supports standard definition.
You would connect either composite (yellow) or S-video to the "Sat" connection on the rear of the receiver. For audio you would connect a stereo (red/white) analog connection to the same "Sat" connection.

My KLH R5100 display comes and goes, most of the time is just dead, any suggestion ?

From your description you have bad connections on the display board, or intermittent power feed from the main board, it will take somebody that is handy with a soldering iron or a professional to check it out.

Olevia 242 and Motorola DVR Cable Box switching

Have you tried using component cables instead. One of my Time Warner cable boxes did the same thing using HDMI.

When I connect HDMI from a Time Warner DVR to my Vizio thru a DVI/HDMI adapter, I get no sound. I can only get sound if I use Component input (RGB+ audio R&L). Is this a DVR issue or a Vizio issue?

Use the Time Warner remote and hit the settings button twice. Scroll down to "audio: digital out" and select HDMI. That solved it for me.

The only issue I have now is that I also have component sound outputs going from the cable box to a receiver. When I turn off the TV while the HDMI cable is hooked up to both the box and the tv the sound goes out to the receiver...

Klh audio video R5100 surround sound receiver

could be 2 things....
1) The receiver could be set to feed the right speaker with more volume. Check the volume setting for each individual speaker on the receiver.

2) The cable connecting the left input from your dvd player is not connected properly or is bad. Try swapping the left and right audio input cables to see if this moves the problem to the other side. If it does - get a new cable.

P50 VIZIO WHEN ON HDTV I GET SNOW

it's probably the Time Warner cable box that have issue and not the TV. Try using a DVD player and test the same input, it should work fine.
