Hello:
I hope the following information is helpful.
If you are trying to install the driver for the Broadcom ethernet NIC that was pre-installed (NOT an ethernet card that you purchased and installed yourself), there is a softpack (updated driver installation) download available from HP/Compaq. It will install the driver automatically for you, just download it from the link below and run the ".exe" file.
IMPORTANT:
Check to be sure that your current Operating System, and model of the network device you are trying to install, are BOTH listed below BEFORE you download!

Hi there.
You don't need the model number of the ethernet controller itself, you have already provided the information i need to help you (the computer make and model).
Go here to HP support, choose your operating system (win2000, XP etc) download and install the LAN (network) driver >>>>>>

Good luck and thanks for choosing FixYa!!

The best way to get the drivers you need is to go to www.hp.com and search for your drivers there using the model number for your computer. Of course, this assumes that you can get internet access from somewhere else besides the computer that you are working on. If you don't have another place you can get on the internet, try your local library. Many of those have free internet access. In my experience, the most likely driver for your computer would be either the Broadcom Netextreme or the Intel Gigabit driver. Good Luck & thanks for using Fixya

The driver is available on the HP website. I believe it's a broadbent The PCI SFF modem should be easy to come by. Try this link:

$20 bucks.
Your ethernet board is a Broadcom. Here's the link and just select your operating system:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=316715&prodTypeId=12454&prodSeriesId=316713&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093#11395
Hopefully the entire link will work...but if you go to hp.com, go to the support section and type in your model number and you'll find it.

your operating system should detect and install the drivers for your network controller if it is an internal on board LAN. however you must be sure that you have the LAN enabled in your BIOS setup under the advanced selection on the bios screen. otherwise , your operating system won't even see that you have a LAN connection.
Here is the HP site and Driver page for your PC.
Hope this helps!
