Hi, I was recently given a Samsung Syncmasster 2333sw flat screen monitor that I hooked up to my old Dell Dimension 8200 desktop. The monitor says the optimum resolution is 1920x1080 pixels. The maximum the computer allows is 1280x1024 so there's a black band on each side of the screen. Can I upgrade the video adapter or something and if so, any suggestions? The computer is just for routine use but I'd like the larger screen. Thanks in advance, Bob

Hi bob you should be able to adjust the screen size via the menu on the monitor itself, (Available in Analog mode only) Note When TV signal is input in AV mode ,select “Screen Fit “to adjust vertical position in 0-6 levels. Image Size Note Supplied for the wide models only such as 16:9 or 16:10. You can change the size of the screen displayed on your monitor. PC signals • Auto - The screen is displayed in accordance with the screen aspect ratio of the input signals.• Wide - A full screen is displayed regardless of the screen aspect ratio of the input signals. Note • Signals not available in the standard mode table are not supported.• If the wide screen which is the optimal resolution for the monitor is set on your PC, this function is not performed. AV signals • 4 : 3 - Sets the picture to 4:3 normal mode. • 16 : 9- Sets the picture to 16:9 wide mode. • Screen Fit- Use the function to see the full image without any cutoff when DVI (480p/576p/720p/1080i/1080p) signals are input. Note It can only be selected if an external input is connected to the DVI terminal and the 'PC/AV Mode' is set to 'AV'. • 4 : 3 - Sets the picture to 4:3 normal mode. • Wide-Sets the picture to 16:10 wide mode. • Screen Fit- Use the function to see the full image without any cutoff when DVI (480p/576p/720p/1080i/1080p) signals are input. Note • It can only be selected if an external input is connected to the DVI terminal and the 'PC/AV Mode' is set to 'AV'. • When the panel is of 16:10,the screen size options include “4:3”,”wide “,”Screen fit“.hope this helps

Dell eDimension 8200 computer has started but monitor scren remains black

Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA

the leads from your (motherboard to your hard drive) make sure they have secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they might be faulty

if its a 40 pin flat ribbon type it will be the first to fail

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty

even something as small as a faulty electrical fan and its lead can cause you problems

computers need all power and data to continue through every working device and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust built up or in the socket

if you remove your graphics check the socket to make sure its dust free

restart your computer then reinstall it this should activate found new hardware wizard

hope this helps

Hi, I have a dell dimension e521 I hook up a old monitor to it and, it work but whei i hook up a new flat screen monitor it said (can not display video

Are you using the same VGA cable. Try to use the same VGA cable which is there is in Old Monitor

Though it can be issue with the resolution setting also of the Video

For that when you plug in your desktop to old monitor bring the Resolution to the minimum and then Connect it to your New Monitor

I recently moved and when i hooked all of it back

open it up check all the connections memory and add in cards for security.
connect it and try again. Sometimes the bios battery can cause wierd problems, they are usually a 2032 battery on the motherboard. replace it if it's suspect. I would then look at the power supply. Big heavy capitors don't like being dropped, (neither do hard drives for that matter).

I want to replace CD drive on Dell Dimension 8200. My options are serial ATA, parallel ATA & ATAPI. Which one do I need?

Hello,

This computer has 2 IDE connectors. These are parallel ATA connectors.

See: Dell Dimension 8200 Specs

If you get a drive, look for IDE on the package. IDE, PATA and ATAPI are near synonomous. They use a 40 pin flat ribbon cable to connect.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Dell Dimension 8200 Processor

hi, i also hav a dimensions 8200 which i recently uprgaded to a 2.8gh, but i discovered there were two versions of this system one which supports a 400FSB and the other 533FSB, these can determine the speed of ur cpu. Like you, I havent been able to unlock my clock speeds in the bios but i think you should be able to get more from ur new cpu by updating ur bios version to A09. check the dell site for more info on how to do this.
