What are the 2 square things in front of the battery at the back side of a hp compaq 8510p? are they some kinda fuse or breaker? because i know that there was e short sircuit and one of those square things went inside.....so let me know pllsss.... i went to some shops they told me i've lost my motherboard but i think it's the fuse
No photos of THINGs
no joy,
why think the blind in text box can see.?
yes there are fuses
No they are not on top of black case plastic ever.
they are on the main PCB , green printed circuit board called mother board.
in all cases. (some mobo are blue, or red but its just a color)
HP does not sell them now. mobo this old
so get used one off fleabay and pray it works. as most do now this old.
warning there are like 10 mother boards. used
so that service tag shows there is sub model number,
and that tell the HP tech which mobo is inside, or to buy one.
and get the right one,
here is how to learn this.
a class, HP parts, 101
follow along and learn.,
http://partsurfer.hp.com/search.aspx
see that, see that tag , lines 1,3, and 5 matter
we pick country , yes MOBO vary by country too......
and then type 8510p
http://partsurfer.hp.com/WSearch.aspx?Wchar=Y&searchText=8510p
now see the page flood with submodels.
one is yours, pick it.
lets pack for fun the 1st one.
http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?type=PROD&SearchText=AK519US
see that? AK419US (us means for USA)
HP calls it "PC BOARD"
see that?
they had 11 boards just for that one model, sub model AK.
one for each class of video GPU and view ram.
that means you need to remove the old PC board.
read the numbers off it and match it here.
and see HP does not sell it now, its too old
but now that its matched up, you know what to buy on the used market or just scrap the PC like most folks do.
or buy another just like it and now have lots of spare parts.
that is what I do.
why not ask your tech to fix it.?
if he passes , then id bet you cant do will pulling both heatsinks
inside and getting them back right,
with new compound.
the HP service manual covers all, that, at HP, we are not HP we are fixya.
BINGO for HP.

There are no fuses that you can see on the outside of any laptop. They are on the motherboard and they are inside the battery itself. You need to give us more info or perhaps attach a picture of the issue and explain how you shorted what.

Hi,
This is a common problem we faced especially for home users. The problem is really simple: The power adapter socket on your laptop's motherboard is broken. Assuming that the system board is not broken or cracked, this broken socket can be easily replaced. And it only costs $2!
Unfortunately, it is common policy for service centers nowadays to replace the board for this type of problem, thats why they are charging $398, which is actually a good price.
If you have any basic electronic background, then you can replace it yourself. The main hurdle you will face is in finding the exact dc socket and disassembly and assembly of your notebook. Just remove and replace the defective socket from the mainboard. Otherwise you can put external connector on it. It might not look good, but you do have a working laptop now.
