Electronic components are very sensitive to voltage surges, spikes or sags.

Voltage is not delivered at a constant 120 volts. With alternating current, the voltage rises and falls in a predetermined rhythm. The voltage oscillates from 0 to a peak voltage of 169 volts. Most appliances and electronics used in the United States are designed to be powered by this form of generated electricity.
During a power surge, the voltage exceeds the peak voltage of 169 volts.

A spike in voltage can be harmful to appliances and electrical devices in your home. An increase in voltage above an appliance's normal operating voltage can cause an arc of electrical current within the appliance. The heat generated in the arc causes damage to the electronic circuit boards and other electrical components.

(Smaller, repeated power surges may slowly damage your electronic equipment, over time too.)

Voltage sags, a.k.a voltage dips or brownouts, is another form of electrical disturbance that can damage appliances as well.

The bottom line, power surges, spikes, and sags can vary in duration and magnitude; and can damage electrical equipment ranging from stereos to computers to any household appliance that uses chip board circuitry sensitive enough to "blow" due to over or under-energizing it.

Can't get freezer to reset model number LFFH17HWC serial numberWB93766371

Hello richardso903 - Once again try resetting the freezer by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. Wait approximately ten minutes and restart the unit. Set the unit to ON, by pressing and holding the Power button for approximately ten seconds. If issue persists and freezer does not turn on, then the unit may be experiencing a wiring failure, faulty plug or control board. I would strongly recommend connecting with a professional to narrow down the precise issue before investing in parts that may or may not be the root cause.

My freezer keeps overloading our switch board, whats wrong?

The freezer has a compressor which will draw quite a lot of current in the first half-second when it starts.

Either: Your freezer has a electrical problem and needs to be fixed,

Or: there is already too much drawing on the circuit that you are trying to add the freezer to, and the freezer is more than the circuit breaker will allow.

First try powering the freezer from some other socket on a different circuit (use a long cord), or unplug a few things that are nearby (in most houses, there will be several wall sockets on the same wire in each area of the house).

If the freezer runs fine from a different socket, or when you unplug some other stuff, then the problem is you are overloading the circuit you were originally trying to add it to.

If you can't get the freezer to run on any socket without tripping the circuit breaker then probably the freezer has an electrical fault and best you get a real electrician to check it (safety first!).

I can't turn my Kenmore upright freezer on.

Try disconnecting power for about 30 seconds, and then restore power. This will reboot the control and maybe restart.

My Kenmore Upright Freezer Model 25326432100 flashed "ER."

My freezer was purchased in February, 2004. It is a self defrosting freezer but ice has started forming along the bottom shelf and back wall. Also, after cleaning the freezer the other day it has stopped clycing. The freezer will stop running only if I turn it down to the #1 setting and then it will not come back on. If I turn it up to a higher setting the compressor will not stop running. It ran for over 24 hours and would not cycle unless I turned it off or set it at the #1 setting. When I unplugged it and pulled it away from the wall, there was a green water spot the size of a dinner plate underneath the freezer. Help!! Very Unhappy this freezer is only 6 years old. S in Phila.

Hotpoint freezer

The compressor needs to cool off before it will restart. Leave it unpluged for a couple hours to see if it will restart.
