Problems playing my Phillips DVD/ VHS with my new WESTENHOUSE HDTV

I just bought a Westenhouse 26";, model SK-26H240S, HDTV but I cannot seem to get my Phillips DVD/ VHS, model DVP3340V, to show on it. I have tried going white audio- audio, red video-video with my cables but I cannot get a picture on channel 3. Also, I have them all around and failed to get a signal with either a DVD or VHS tape playing. When I tried channel 4 it not a receiving channel. Am I missing anything besides my Phillips owner manual???

I notice this was made in 2008 and I hope you have found the answer. But if you or others have not here is my answer. Are using the RCA cable from the output on the DVD Player and you have plugged it into the RCA in ports then you need to use the remote to move through the on screen menu. My INSIGNIA has a Source List menu on the remote that shows on screen. I can scope through the MENU for TV, Composite Side, S-Video Rear, S-Video Side, Composite 1, Composite 2, VCR, HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDMI 3. That is found using either the INPUT button on the upper left on the remote or the buttons; VIDEO, COMP, HDMI, AND TV across the top of the remote. Hope this helps.

Westinghouse SK-40H590D ATSC LCD TV w/DVD NDW-B Need to find TV setting for Close Caption for the Hearing Impaired for all DVD and VHS I choose to play. How do I download and print a users manual for...

This is a link to both the quick start guide and the full manual for download. http://westinghouse.manuals365.com/HDTV/SK-40H590D.html

I am not sure that this particular function can be set as default however, you may have to set up Closed Captions every time you insert a DVD/VHS.

Toshiba 26AV502U (new) video dropout if VHS tapeis not perfect

Had problem checked by local outfit called "Circuit Pro"; their analysis was compatibility.
Actual answer was that the Toshiba required a better quality input from "any" VHS source.
I finally took a "less than perfect" VHS tape with me when I returned the Toshiba TV to the store and demonstrated the problem to one of the TV sales people. He played the VHS tape through a display VHS/DVD player to three different brands of TV. The picture was often "black screen" on a Toshiba, but was merely poor quality on the other two brands. I upgraded to a Sony KDL26M4000 from the Toshiba 26AV502U.

Noise while playing VHS

It sounds like the tape is cocked slightly. some VHS tapes did make noise. I'd take it to the store and show them the noise.
