Lens Cover Not Opening, Flash Only Occasionally working

I have the Canon PowerShot A75. I have been experiencing problems with the lens cover not fully opening (or not opening at all) and with the flash only occasionally going off.

I have to tap the lens covers to get them to open about 9 times out of 10 that I use the camera.

I am also having problems with the flash. Even with new batteries, it only goes off occasionally. If I don't have the flash on, the pictures are often blurry and crummy. With it on, if the flash isn't working, it won't take a picture at all. I have cycled through the flash options trying to get it to work, and that doesn't seem to help.

My camera is about three years old. Could this simply be a factor of age and wear or is there something I can do to remedy these problems?

My problem is very similar. The lens never fully retracts nor fully opens. Its normal position is about a quarter inch out from the closed position. When I press the power button once, the lens extends about an eighth of an inch. When I depress it again, it extends about another eighth. When I depress it a third time, the lens retracts to its original position. Each time the little green light lights up for about a half a second.

I can get the lens to retract fully (and close) if I manually push it back on the third press. Then it's back to business as usual, with the eighth, eighth, etc.

I also noticed that after a few minutes, the bottom side of the camera (just to the left of the tripod mounting slot) becomes warm.

I bought it at a yard sale, so I wasn't expecting much, but if there's a solution, would you please pass it on.

I also tried the bumping method, with no success.

    Thanks

I'm already using new Energizer Industrial alkalines. Do I need something different? They seem to work fine in my wife's (Canon 675? I think that's the number.)

Sticky lens cover doesn't open and close smoothly

This may cause you camera to break, be very careful

Get a damp wash cloth and slowly stick the corner of the wash cloth in the lens.

Try to but a needle in the lens cap slowly pry it open.

Hope it solves your problem :D

there is dirt-moisture glue around the cover of the ccd sensor preventing its opening. get it to a professional and the dirt glue removed. this can happen if u transfer ur cam from humid place to an cool area like where there is AC.

Lens error

that could be the lens cover not opening all the way, try and look at the lens as if you were doing self-portrait, and power on. if lens cover opens all the way but lens doesn't come out, the lens might be stuck or motor broke.

Dropped my Canon A75 and lens would not close

As you've dropped the camera, it's likely that the guide pins became dislodged. Believe it or not, this can be repaired without opening the camera. The following blog post outlines some repair options for a lens error like you're experiencing. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try. For your case, follow the listed steps in sequence, but give repeated tries to Fixes 4 and 7:

Canon Powershot A75 lens got stuck midway

Here are some simple things to try first for a camera that won't power on. They won't work for every case, but they're worth a try:

If the above don't work, then you may possibly be experiencing a lens error. Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for about 50% of lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty they're worth a try:

There is warning (E18)on screen of my dijital camera canon powershot A75

The E18 error is fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension.

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for about 50% of lens errors, but they're worth a try:

Canon A75 stuck between ON & OFF after uploading photos

My Canon A75 has the EXACT same problem. I have always handled it with care. When I was taking photos with it, the camera suddenly started shutting down without a low battery warning. It just started shutting down, but it stopped with the lens still sticking half way out. Like yours, the top green light flashes when I try pressing the power button. Any ideas?

Power On problem

Try the simple stuff first. Install fresh batteries. Remove the memory card. If that doesn't fix the problem, it is time for warranty.
