Pfaff Model 1222. The drive belt seizes up and

Pfaff Model 1222d. The drive belt seizes up and groans to a hault. I have done all of the trouble shooting on p.65 of instruction book. The machine has not been used for years but has been well stored in its cabinet. No rust or other issues. I've had it since 1970 and it looks brand new. Just need to straight stich. I can turn the drive belt manually after repeated back and forth motions but at first the metal bars were stuck firmly to the hard rubber/plastic (?) wheel. Can you help?

Try lowering the presser foot lever one click down (needle down presser foot up position). You maybe in the bobbin winding mode that is why it is locked up for your safety, you don't want to puncture any body part while winding the bobbin. It locks up the needle and the balance wheel while it allows the winder to spin.

My PFAFF 1222 SE has a broken switch. I don't

I have many parts available for the Pfaff 1222 as well as many other Pfaff models.

I will also have power switches available for the Pfaff 1222 as well as other Pfaff models, and sold as a kit that you can install on your own with step by step instructions. The original power switch has been discontinued from the manufacturer of the power switch.

We have been in business since 1973, and we specialize in the Pfaff machines as well as stocking many parts for the various Pfaff machines - as well as other brands.

We service and sell NEW & USED & REBUILT Home sewing machines & related equipment as well as Industrial sewing machines, and we have a vast supply of PARTS and ACCESSORIES in stock.

I also have a Full Synthetic Sewing Machine Oil that I developed about 12 years ago with the assistance of two long time engineer friends - as I didn't like any of the oils that were readily available for sewing machines.

Pfaff 1222 and pfaff 1229

Have a certified repairman look at the power board in the machine. The power supply circuits are broken on the board itself. Can be repaired with wire and solder. How do I know? Just fixed my wifes 1229 that had the same problem.

P.S. New boards are NOT available from PFAFF or anyone else

Pfaff 1222 belt

Hi - a few suggestions:
  1. May just need a good thorough service - generally a good idea to have it completely gone over - by an experienced Pfaff tech - every year or 2. Internal parts can dry out and simply get jammed.
  2. The timing could be off - again an experienced tech can take care of.
  3. The cam-stack (the part that actually makes your stitch formations) may have cracked. At the age of your machine, this isn't uncommon.
At the age of your machine, many other owners actually have it "rebuilt" by an authorized Pfaff service person. This model is one of those that's worth the investment compared to buying a new machine of the same caliber/quality.

If you are comfortable removing the top cover, you may be able to look at the internal parts to see if anything is broken. This will at least give you an idea of what may be happening.

Many authorized techs will not charge you to look at the machine and give you a quote. We'd suggest calling a few sewing machine stores in your area. Don't hesitate to ask friends for their recommendation of a good service person.

Hope this helps - please don't hesitate to respond if you need further info or clarification.

Happy sewing,

Changing Pfaff 1222 sewing machine belt

Have a look at this: remove the top cover and have a look (don't put your fingers in !) at the plastic gear in the middle of the mechanism (left side of he selection keys). It often cracks and then the motor is able to turn the whole mechanism for part of the circumference of this gear and when it passes on the crack, it locks or slows down until the crack is passed. You need to have it changed if this is the case.
