I'll give it a shot. Have you tried re-regestering the handset? Press and hold down the "end" key (on most models it looks like a red handset) while holding that key down, press and hold the # key, after a few seconds the unit should beep and show:
(SYSTEM RESET)
Deregister HS
BaseUnavailible

Useing the four-way key select "Base unavailable" and press the menu key The LCD display should then show :
"Which Base?"
Base #1

Select base one and then the display will show
"Base Unavailible
Yes
No

Select "Yes."

Your handset is now unregistered. To re-Register the phone to the base do the following. If the base unit has a charging cradle, just set the handset in it and it should register on its own, if you have a cordeed base, or the unit will not register when you set it in the cradle on the base go to menu and select register handset, then press and hold the # key on the handset for 2 - 3 seconds, it should beep and then start the registration process. If you have 6 handsets registered to your base, you will need to de-register teh non-working unit from the bases memrey before you will be able to re-register the handset.

Testimonial: "The instructions were very complete and easy to follow."

After doing what Guru says to do if your unit doesn't re-register, then, if you have a base unit that plugs into an outlet, unplug the line on the back of the unit next to the telephone line. Before plugging back in hold the on-off button and the clear button (the circle with the line through it) down and plug the line back in at the same time. A "P" should flash on and off and the 0 showing no messages will come on. Set the handset in the cradle and it should now reset.

If you are with in what you think is a reasonable range ... your batteries are probably just about done for ... replace your batteries.

what is your expectation of me?

You could have revealed these very important facts for your case at the front of the question, at which point I would have had a entirely different answer for you ... as it is ... you have rated me unsatisfactory for the question you asked ... I shant give you further chance to degrade my score further.

All the question catchers here are volunteer workers that make this site work, by the way ... generally speaking, collectively, we are very good at what we do when given proper opportunity and with proper questions.

Phone message reads

If you are not too far away-not "out of range" then try rehoming/pairing the handset with the base unit. You probably need the phones together to do this. Your manual will explain how-it will have been done in the original setup.

Hand set out of range disply is on. How do I reset.

here are some tips from my manual for out of range problems
hope they help
• Only one handset can be used to make or answer a call anytime.
If another handset attempt to do so, the screen will display OTHER
HANDSET ON and then OR OUT OF RANGE. You might press PHONE
or SPEAKER again until no other handset is using the line. Use the call
transfer feature to transfer a call to another system handset
or use the speakerphone feature so multiple members of your
house can be on an active call at the same time.
• Move the cordless handset closer to the base. You might have moved
out of range.
• Ensure that the base is powered up.
• Place the cordless handset in base cradle for 1 minute to allow the
cordless handset and base to resynchronize channels.
• If the cordless handset is in its base and the charging light does not
come on, refer to the charge light is off in troubleshooting guide.
• Reset the base. Unplug the unit’s electrical power. Wait for 15 seconds
then plug it back in. Allow up to one minute for the cordless handset
and base to reset.
• Other electronic products can cause interference with your cordless
phone. Try installing your phone as far away from these types of elec
tronic devices as possible: wireless routers, radios, radio towers, page
towers, cell phones, intercoms, room monitors, televisions, personal
computers, kitchen appliances and cordless phones.

"out of range"

I have a GE DECT 6.0 Digital phone (silver, 2-handset model) and one of the handsets began displaying "Out of Range" and was unresponsive. We've had severe lightning around here in recent days which interfered with the digital tv reception, so I'm pretty sure that's what caused the problem. Here was what worked for me:

- unplug base unit for 15 seconds
- press "PROGRAM" button on handset
- from menu, select "HANDSET SETUP"
- from menu, select "REGISTRATION"
- handset display will prompt you to press and hold PAGE button on base unit for 5 seconds, then press "PROGRAM" button on handset

This action re-initiates the transmission between the base unit and the handset.

Good luck!

I have a three hand set GE dect 6.0 one of the handsets will not activate, it keeps showing me "Out of Range" I have tried many times to set it up but it always give me the same message "out of range". Can...

On the handset, look for the "PROGRAM" button and choose "HANDSET SETUP". Scroll through the menu to find "REGISTRATION" and select it. The handset display should then prompt you to press and hold the "PAGE" button on the base unit for 5 seconds and then press the "PROGRAM" button on the handset.

Perhaps you've already tried this process, as you indicated your attempts "to set it up". This is what worked for my GE DECT phones when one of the handsets displayed "Out of Range" after an electrical storm. Best of luck to you!

Handset No2 displays out of range message

Please check that you have correctly registered the second handset to the base. It may be necessary to de-register the second handset and then re-register it. "Out of range" just means the second handset is not within range of the base phone it was registered to.

Handset has message Out of Range even though it is fully charged on on the handset.

The handsets are reading out of range because they have lost connection with the base. This happens mostly during peak power demands or power outages, but can also happen when the phone is unplugged for any amount of time. This can also cause, at times, the answering machine to stop picking up calls. To remedy this issue, reset the phone system. Please follow the instructions below:
To reset the phone:
1. Disconnect the power adapter, phone line, and remove all batteries from the base and all handsets. Leave it disconnected for 30 seconds to reset the base.
2. Place the batteries in the handsets first and then plug in the power adapter and phone line. Do not place the batteries back in the base yet.
3. Put the handset in the charge cradle.
4. It may take up to 1 minute for the "Out of Range" to clear from the display.
5. Once the "Out of Range" is cleared from the handset place the back up batteries back into the base.
