Printing 5X7 photos

When I attempt to print a 5X7 photo, the result is a pattern of 4 to 5 stripes across the photo.
These white stripes are evenly spaced and they are not present when I print a 4X6 size.
I just inserted a new print cartridge and purchased a new pack of paper - and it still leaves the stripes.
any ideas?

I have an HP z5200 color plotter and am printing a poster from Powerpoint or PDF (neither works). Wherever there are photos present in the poster, vertical white stripes extend through the colored background. Any suggestions?

I have an HP Photosmart A646 printer that I bought in the hopes of printing to 5x7 card stock. We have pre-printed card stock that we use for gift certificates and we need to be able to feed the card stock...

Thanks for visiting FixYa!

Depending on the program you are using to print your gift certificates, try this-

1) Open the program and open the file you use for your gift certificate.
2) Click on 'Layout' then 'Page Set Up' (probably found in the top menu bar by the right side of, FILE.)
3) Select 'Landscape' and then select, 'Custom'.
4) Enter 5x7 for height and width.
5) Enter the information you need in the data field, (ie, name address, etc.)
6) Select, Print.
7) When the 'Print Manager' box opens, click on, 'Properties'.
8) Click on, 'Type' and choose, "Envelope'.
9) Click on, 'Size' and choose 5x7. - and click, OK.

Your printer should have a slide where the paper is inserted. Place one of the 5x7 cards in the slot just as you would an envelope and slide the slider until it is 'close' to the card but not directly against the card.

Click, 'Print'. The printer should recognize the card (due to its thickness) as an envelope and print it.

When i try to print a photo i get white stripes across the photo. I bought a new ink cartridge but it didn't help.

White stripes across a print-out usually indicate clogged printer heads: look at your user manual on the cleaning procedures.
You can try cleaning BOTH the Black and Color cartridges heads by gentling cleaning and wiping the heads with clean moist tissue paper/kitchen paper. Also clean and dry the contacts (eg. copper looking printed circuit).
For bad and very dirty print heads, I also use a warm shallow dish of water and wash the head only and then dry off with clean tissue paper.
After re-inserting the cartridge, I suggest that you do a cleaning cycle and alignment and do a test print to ensure that the printing is back to normal.
Hope it helps: let me know how you go.

Stripes in coloured photos

This is possibly banding and can be caused by blocked injets or a faulty printer head. It is not seen on print because the spray pattern is grossly different on text than it is on creating pictures

UPDR150 Thermal Photo Printer: My Sony UPD-150 is printing on only 3/4 of the 5X7...

One of the pins is bent. Its not closing completely so when it prints the heads are not touching the media evenly causing this effect. We have four of these printers and have seen this before. You need to take some pliers and straighten the bent pin in the door to match the one on the opposite side. These pins are located near the top edges of the printer door.

Cannot print 5x7 photo with i550 printer. What do

The i550 is capable of printing 5x7, the print software you are using may not be capable. The paper is loaded in the feeder lengthwise all the way to the right. If you are getting error codes, that's a different story.

Better way to conserve ink?

Sad but true. This is how printer mfgrs make their money...selling ink.

It's cheaper to take your photos on a memory card or CD to CVS Pharmacy and have them printed
