I would check the cord for good connection, make sure its all the way in the outlet and that its connected firmly in the back of the machine.
Then check the door latch, sometimes the latch is loose or not locking properly, allowing the door to open slightly, stopping the machine.
If none of these work you might be looking at a short
3. Wires touching behind the control panel on the top of the machine or something along those lines.
You don't give model/make. I assume you get a shock when you touch the cabinet. I assume, also, that the dryer stops if you turn the timer to OFF. Obviously a line-wire is frayed (not shorted) to the chassis. It could be the 2 wires (+ ground) going to the door switch or 1 of the wires in the harness going from the timer to the motor assembly. The fact that the light bulb is out *and* the drum continues to spin when the door is opened - all point to a faulty door switch.
This switch tells the machine the "status" of the door position. When the door is open, it turns on the light *and* stops / prevents the drum from starting. When closed, the light is shut off *and* the drum is permitted to spin. You should have the switch serviced as if a wire came loose it adds a potential shock hazard - in addition to the safety issue of placing hands into a spinning drum.
first thing unplug machine and have electrical outlet checked for proper wiring. This is a safety hazard. you can buy a tool for about $5 to check them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Receptacle_tester if it passes this test then there is a wiring issue in the machine. Were you touching anything else metal when shocked? if it fails, get a professional electrician to check and repair the wiring. Do NOT use any faulty outlet as they can be dangerous.
This is usually a sign of an alternator getting bad. It can also have problems with bad ground wires . You can buy anti static rubber wire straps that hang from the back of your car. This grounds everything better and decreases static electricity. It also is good for car sickness. If your alternator is overcharging, you may get a shock, so I would have that checked out first, than a short in ground wires. Hope this helps
The first thing you need to do is turn the breaker off to the dryer , that way you don't risk shock trying to unplug it. The next step is to locate where the wire is arcing over, I would start at where the plug comes into the dryer and move on from there. Thats a very dangerous situation, be careful and good luck
sounds like the door catch is loose, this is what holds the door shut, when the clothes are spinning they hit the door opening it enough to reset the door switch, there's a metal or plastic tab that goes into the catch, easy to install and part is cheap money
Hello. The fact that you are getting a shock has the potential to injure or even kill you. Something is amiss either within the dryer or with the wiring or the plug. Get a qualified electrician in to check this out and repair it. The fact that your dryer is not working is the least of your problems until your SHOCK hazard is repaired. This is nothing to take lightly. Please have this checked right away. J.
a bad ground. are you useing a three prong plug with an adaptor so it fits a two prong outlet? It also could be a wire touching some metal inside or many other things.
