i just had this issue. I took a small phillips screw driver out and removed the seagate hard drive from its enclosure. I brought the hard drive to a microcenter to verify if the hard was dead or something in the case. The hard drive was fine. I purchased a $15.00 inland 2.o to IDE/ SATA adapter from microcenter. This let me use my drive as I did before. All of my data that was on the drive is still there.

I am usually pretty good at getting the data back in most cases except the most extreme(fire, bullet holes, ect..). Send me an email describing your problem in detail and include you phone number. I will call you for free and discuss all the options for data retrieval. Make sure you rate this a fixya for me and I will even extract the data for you for free. You just pay the shipping both ways. I do this for a hobby juust to help people. Send me your info to [email protected] I will get back to you as soon as I can. Include the time differential between your location and mine so I call at a reasonable hour! I'm in PA USA eastern time zone! Hope to hear from you soon!

The hard drive is probably faulty, how is the drive? if it uses a external powersupply the power adapter may have worn out and is not providing enough power for the drive to function.
Do you hear clicking from the drive?
A possible solution would be to remove the hard drive from the case, note that it may void your warranty if its still on warranty. And connect it to your computer directly to see if it functions.

Hi,
This generally means you have a hardware failure in the drive or enclosure. The simplest way to test which is to have a hardware tech move the drive into a new enclosure and see if it works.
This will void your warranty if you do it, so, if the drive is under warranty and there are no files you consider valuable on the drive, call the manufacturer for warranty support.
If you value the data more than the drive is worth then take it to your local hardware vendor and ask them to test the hard drive in a new enclosure. Good odds it will work this way but if not you may need the help of a data recovery specialist.
In North America I use Armor-IT, if you are in a different region and the new enclosure fails to garner results, comment back with your region(Country, State, City) and I will supply you with the closest reputable facility.
