Check BIOS for Optical drive. Press F key noted on boot screen to enter. If it's not noted there, you need to check physical connections. Might just need to be re-seated with power disconnected. Re-check BIOS and make sure to save before exiting.
If it is noted in BIOS and Windows still fails to see the drive. Run a thorough virus scan, then boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 during startup. Go to Device Manager, and select Show Hidden devices under the View tab. Delete all drives and reboot. Windows should say new hardware found and install.
This should take care of the problem if there is nothing wrong with the drive. Replace or seek professional support is not, and good luck
Sometimes people push down too hard on the cd table, throwing it out of alignment---have you tried running an optical disk cleaner in it? Try that 2 or 3 times first, before you get the optical drive checked or maybe replaced...it could just be really dirty.
weird. Try using Windows System Restore to revert back to before installing dameon tools. You can try installing it again but I would re-download just to be safe. It it happens again you might want to try alcohol 120% instead.
Windows uses generic simple drivers for any optical drives. Try deleting the drive from device manager and reboot. You do not need to download anything special for windows to operate a drive. If you cannot access the drive then it may be damaged or a hardware fault.
Go to this incredibly long link (sorry about that) and look though the solutions there, it says it is for hp and sony computers but it has the same principal for all dvd/cd drives
